Dell XPS 15 Z - Worth the buy!

The Dell XPS 15z breathes a fresh lease of life in the way we view images and work seamlessly without having to worry on the performance. As a photographer, I was looking at a "future proof" laptop which would justify my penchant for CS4 apart from the other programs which work in parallel. After 3 months of research, I ended up buying this one. The images spring into life thanks to the excellent resolution, the design of the laptop is simple yet evokes power.A very good buy!

Like a lot except for screen reflections

Mostly it is a great laptop. Fast, good screen resolution- it works well.It does have a few problems.The worst problem is that it has horrible reflections from its high gloss screen.It's a constant problem juggling the screen angle. Fortunately I canturn the screen brightness up a lot which helps some, but drainsthe battery much more quickly. Dell offered some laptops withoptional no-glare screens, but not this one.A minor nit- the CD eject button is on the keyboard and is often ignored by thesystem- it may not really be worse than the button on the cd itself, but itseems worse. I don't like this kind of drive- I would rather have a tray thatpops out instead of a slot.A bigger problem- the battery can't be swapped at the airport - it takes disassembly.And for me who wants to dual boot Linux- the newer Linux versions get snarled upwith the dual video chip thing and the screen goes dark. Also the touch padis not recognized by some versions.In all other respects it is a great laptop- the heat is less than many otherhigh performance units, the speed is excellent, the auto screen brightness workswell enough, the built-in wifi works well, the built-in bluetooth is goodand I carry a portable bluetooth mouse which is great. The unit is quite thin though heavy-ish.I love the 1920x1080 screen, though I would like 1920x1200 more.DELL: stop listening to yourselves and hear the customers: 1920x1200 and no glare.And this customer wants Linux drivers!
