Nice Laptop

I bought this laptop couple days ago and am very satisfied with it. I thought the design might look ugly just looking at the pictures, but the design is very nice.Anyways here are the pros and consPro: nice sleek design, comfortable keyboard, good performance, reasonable graphic card, cheap price (at least based on my price), light weight, and does not get very hotCons: lack of bluetooth (which i hardly use), lack of some ports such as memory card reader (which again I hardly use), sound quality is not very good, arrow keys kinda smooshed together with the rest of the keypads (not really a problem), lack of hoktkeys (which means you have to hold the "fn" button to control the volume and etc)I really think this is a decent laptop for decent price (unless they raise the price up). Even though there seems to be a lot of cons, i think those are really minor issues (at least for me) and the pros outweight the cons. So if you are look for a decent laptop for a cheap price, I recommend this product.

Inexpensive, sturdy, nice design and fast!

Initially I was going to go for a more expensive laptop, and then I stumbled upon the Samsung q430 in a best buy as I was browsing that section of the store. Typically I'm wary of any pc's that are in the local stores as they usually get the watered down versions of laptops where you can find the better, more advanced models online.While not on sale anymore, it was still relatively inexpensive compared to a lot of the other laptops that were no faster. icore5 2.4 GHZ processor, 4GB of memory, 500GB hard drive, 512 MB Nvidia video card, built-in SD memory card reader, DVD-burner...what's not to like!Also, while it's easy to overlook something as simple as keyboard layout...it was one of the bigger selling points for me in finding a new laptop. I used to have a powerbook titanium G4 which had a nice keyboard layout, and even now the mac book pros have in my opinion the best keyboard design available in any laptop. The q430's keyboard is quite similar, with the raised, solid, black keys that are responsive, spaced out nicely and provide nice feedback. So once I made the decision to go with a non-mac laptop, I was hoping I could find something comparable in the keyboard area. And the Samsung q430 I think is the closest you can get to having a mac book pro keyboard on a pc laptop. I love this keyboard perhaps with the exception of a smaller than usual shift key, I love it.If there was anything I would change about the laptop, perhaps it would be to not have a glossy screen as sometimes the reflection can be annoying. But nevertheless the screen is bright and strong when I need it to be and I notice it less and less.Wireless works great, 3 usb ports, decent built in webcam, fairly lightweight and has HDMI out! I have even dropped it once already, transport it a lot and everything seems to be going smoothly with no issues. For the price, and even price aside, I think you can't go wrong. I truly feel this is a solid laptop, especially when coming from the world of sturdy, apple quality laptops previously.It's a winner!-MikeL

Amazing Product

I have been trying this laptop for two days now and I am very satisfied by it.The Good:1. Light for its size. I had a Dell XPS M1330 before and this feels lighter than that even though its a 14 incher !2. Fast processor. The turbo boost on its Core i5 really makes it snappy for everyday work and also for photo and video editing. The new Office 2010 runs smoothly on it.3. Looks expensive. The aluminium on its lid and around its keyboard give the product a distinct look.4. Graphics management. The intel HD and nVidia 310m graphics switch seamlessly according to the programs needs. Runs 1080p HD video (native and flash) smoothly without any hitch.5. The Keyboard is this laptop's strong point. Its chiclet style and good to type on.6. Heat management is great on this laptop. The CPU and graphics card temperature didn't exceed 65C even after several hours of (moderate) use. The outside also felt cool.The Bad:1. Touchpad could have been better. The scrolling seems incosistence. (I am not sure if the touch pad or Windows 7 is to blame)2. The battery life could have been better. It is giving me 3.5-4hrs on a charge with moderate use.The Verdict:Its a steal. I was looking at the Envy 14 before this but with this laptop's price, features and looks, I am glad I got it.

Not Bad!

The only thing I will recomend for this laptop,is, buy another 4gig memory card and expand it to 8. I got a card at best buy for 25 bucks, and it really made a vast improvement in my computers speed. I'm sure you can find one at Amazon for less, but its well worth the investment. If you get a card, Youtube has many videos on how to install it. Trust me, it was easy. It took 5 min. You will not have to have a shop do it. Just remember to remove the battery before you do it, and have a small philips ready.

PERFECT COMPUTER

I did tons of research before I purchased this computer, & I'm so glad i purchased this one! Set up is a breeze. I love the pattern on the computer, it completely eliminates finger prints & smudges. I have read reviews that said not very good speakers/sound. But, I have to disagree, mine is powerful & I love it! The offset track pad is in the perfect position for typing & very convenient. Fast shipping,(I chose 2 day)arrived exactly when it was estimated. Tracking was dead on accurate. I love this computer, hopefully it lasts a long time! Overall review: BUY IT!!!

Couldn't be happier!

I couldn't be happier with my new Sony laptop. I switched from an HP Entertainment laptop and have no regrets. Being a neat freak I especially love the texture of the outside and wrist rest area that doesn't show fingerprints. I was able to set it up and get going in no time. I read some comment regarding the screen size being smaller... doesn't bother me at all. Love it!

Excellent laptop for the price.

Certainly this laptop lacks all the bells and whistles (no HDMI, no Webcam, no Mic etc) associated with a typical modern laptop, so what? It sure is built to perform and I am very pleased with its performance. The CPU has 3M cache, great for multitasking, all its components rate very well on the Windows performance index and the screen is nice and bright. I love its keyboard!I bought Logitech 2 MP Webcam Pro 9000 with Built-in Microphone, which was available for $35 during Thanksgiving weekend and it just resolves the no webcam issue with it and at $365 (330+35) I would say it is a steal!

Wrong product description!

The rating given is a reflection on amazon's goof up.The laptop is a decent one with sufficient power for daily use. The bottleneck for performance might be the graphics card. It has a full size keyboard which is attractive. The display is a little sunken compared to a hp laptop making it look smaller.Now coming to Amazon's part (the seller):If a product is offered as a part of a lightening deal we at least expect the product description to be reliable. A decision has to be made in a minute or two which will cost hundred's of dollars. One of the main use of a laptop for me is skype. A missing webcam and mic implies I will have to spent more money and also carry an additional thing wherever I take this laptop.Edit:I contacted the amazon customer service and they are working for a resolution. The reply was prompt which earns them a star more.

Great mid-range features for an economy price

I am really pleased with this laptop. I needed a machine primarily for internet use but wanted it fast enough to handle additional tasks if needed. I think for this purpose it exceeds my expectations and I think it is a good value. It also interfaces really well with Facebook and games, and is fast.The screen is more clear and bright than my old Dell, and it has a shiny, not matte, surface. I appreciate that it is not all loaded up with junk programs. It offered Norton at setup (which I decided not to load), and even came with a freebie version of Word and Excel which has ads on the screen but at least its something. The exterior is textured which hides fingerprints, and for the size it is not heavy. Best thing is it doesnt seem to get hot and its very quiet. Its perfectly quiet.My only complaint when the lid is closed, it goes into sleep mode and as far as I can tell you have to reboot when you open the lid. One minor thing regarding the keyboard, the number pad is on the right side, not on the top, so I feel a little off center when I type. However, I expect to get used to that in no time.

Great Computer

well I had a Sony Laptop for about a year when it suddenly decided to give out and the hard drive crashed. don't know why but that meant I needed a new laptop. Now while shopping around I knew what I wanted and I think in order for this review to be helpful the buyer should know what they are looking for and what they are going to use it for.First, The ASUS A53SD-ES71 isn't sold on the ASUS website the last I checked. now this doesn't mean it is a fake nor is it a replica with an ASUS logo on it. It just means that it was taken from a different model and sold mostly using other sites such as Amazon and TigerDirect.Second, The ASUS name itself is very reliable and most times over looked. Just because your friend has a HP and your first computer was a Dell does not mean that the ASUS name can't live up to your expectations. In fact I feel like it does an even better job.Third, This laptop in specific has lots of features that make it a desired laptop. The Intel Core i7 is currently the best processor made and if bought buy itself can cost just as much as the laptop. The Intel Turbo Boost Technology that comes with it allows the user to choose at which speed the processor will run. The details in the description state that it will run up to 2.2GHz. Now with the High Performance mode available with the turbo boost allows it to run even up to 3.0 GHz. This allows for better performance and will even run multiple programs at the same time with out slowing down performance.Fourth, The NVIDIA 610M graphics card in this laptop is just phenomenal. The fact that this laptop has a dedicated graphics card allows for it to not only playback videos in great quality but it also allows for video games to be played. Now when I purchased this laptop I wanted to be able to run games such as MW3 and Crysis 2. Both of these games are very demanding and will cause most computers to heat up and shut down. Now I haven't played much Crysis 2 but when I did play it allowed me to play in the highest setting. On the other hand, MW3 has kept me up late into the night with out making my computer crapout halfway. In fact I have been able to play up to 5 hours straight with out any slowing in performance. Now due to the fact this graphics card was made for this laptop it does not have an official driver for it. So games such as Mass Effect 3 and other demanding games will probably not run as well. I just ordered Mass Effect 3 and will update as to whether or not this Graphics card can handle the game. Over all this graphics card is really worth it.Fifth the amount of memory is just right and the RAM is also a good enough size. Now I will warn that the hard drive does take a little long to load things if it gets too full but then again that is with most hard drives. I haven't noticed any loud noises or even over heating of it. Only Time will tell.Now this so far sounds like a great buy and by no means it isn't but there are a few things that may get a little annoying. First the button to open the disk drive is just terrible. It feels like its going to break if you push it to hard and if you dont push it hard enough it won't open. Also a previous review stated that it can play blueray but in reality im not too sure about that. I tried playing one but it won't play. then again i only tried once and that disk may have been damaged. Now another thing to be aware of is the fact that when the disk drive is running and you have headphones in there will be a buzzing sound in the head phones. Now it only does this when the disk drive is spinning such as in the playback of a DVD. The keyboard does feel a little cheap and feels like it will lift. Ive only had mine for about 3 months so once again only time will tell.Another thing to keep in mind is the quality of the screen and the speakers. I was really excited about them and well they kind of let me down a bit. The screen does look really good even at its lowest setting but it really doesnt stand out form the Sony I had and well my MAC friends will say it looks just like theirs. The speakers on the other hand are really not that great either. Now they can be customized to various settings for various tasks which is pretty cool. Once again they aren't as good as you might be expecting.Over all I think that this computer is actually really good. It looks nice and makes my old laptop feel like a joke. Now I do sometimes worry about the actual quality of it because for the price it just has too many good things. I always wait to find a flaw in it but other than the ones i previously stated I havnt found any. I think that what ever this laptop will be used for it will do it well and for the price your really not going to get any thing better.***UPDATE***I finally got a chance to install and play Mass Effect 3 and good news it works just fine. I played about an hour before I had to get off and do something else. Notes about the computer: the hard drive was not making any noise while I was playing, it has to be in High Performance mode, and the screen just looked amazing. I earlier said I couldn't see any difference but with this game the difference is noticeable.

Great computer but w/ a couple bugs

*Read if you are having issue with the graphics card or plan to buyI just bought the computer and I instantly loved it. The features of the machine are awesome and I have already expanded the memory to 8gb. However the issue primarily is with the Nvidia 610m card. The card could not be detected when I first booted up the machine, so I uninstalled the existing drivers and discovered that drivers for this machine seem to not exist. I first went to Nvidia for the drivers and the site scanned my machine and told me I needed to go to the manufacturer for drivers. Howerver on Asus's website there is no A53sd model so I started searching through forums on Nvidia and Asus. Apparently there have been a vast amount of people with driver issues for this card inside of Asus machines, especially this model. No one can find the drivers or acquire a working driver, but I found a solution for anyone who buys this computer. This worked on my computer what I did was I did a dxdiag and noticed the model number it displayed was the K53sd not a A53sd. The model is not the same the K53sd has an i5 but the same processor...download it anyway. The install scanned for Nvidia hardware and found compatible hardware for the driver. After a reboot the card was detected and was working great! Windows index went from a 4.9 to a 5.6. Took about a hour to figure it out, but this in noway changed my opinion of Nvidia or Asus.Second minor bug which I dont really care for is the ac input for the charger is on the side of the computer. Until I got it home and started using it I realized I would have preferred it on the back. No a huge issue though

Pleasantly suprised & very satisfied

I've had the laptop for all of a week now, so maybe still a little soon to be commenting on quality, but so far I am very pleased with this purchase. I was not really familiar with ASUS prior to this purchase, sofor the specifications at this price, I was expecting it to look cheap or otherwise not quite live up to the numbers, but I was wrong no both accounts. The laptop has a very nice appearance & all the components feel well made & well placed on the laptop. More importantly, it runs perfectly. The screen is nicer than I expected & the area surrounding the keyboard has a nice aluminum top which is comfortable on the hands (I was expecting all plastic).The laptop is for work & home use, my only real requirement was that it be able to play Diablo III. I have noticed some comments about issues with the video card driver for the laptop; I have not had any issues. When I installed Diablo it prompted me that the driver for the Intel Chipset was not current, which was weird, but the laptop recognizes the card & I installed the latest driver without issue. Diablo runs perfectly while watching a movie & burning a DVD at the same time, so no complaints there.The only real downsides I've noticed so far are that the speakers are pretty weak (don't be fooled by the fact that they try & throw in a name brand), & the touch pad is placed so that I tend to brush it with the side of my hand while typing, which could get annoying (although I find it's happening less as I get used to it). Also, although I haven't noticed, I have been told is somewhat heavy (still a lighter than my old one with over an inch extra screen, so again, no complaints).Edit: I took away a star (not that it seems relevant for this product anymore) after more extensive use, mainly for 3 reasons:1) The keyboard leaves a little to be desired & is not the most sensitive2) The touch pad is overly sensitive and I find I often accidentally disturb it while my hands are in a normal typing position3) Th speakers are really weak.Otherwise it is still running quite nicely, and I would say still a very good buy (and, after using windows 8 some, probably still worth getting).

Small with plenty of punch!

Got this as a lightning deal and was a little worried since there were only 2 reviews that weren't the best, but have been pleasantly surprised. We did a lot of research prior to stumbling upon this laptop. Were looking for a budget PC for around $500 that had plenty of memory, windows 7, fast processor, and ability to use as work/home on the go computer. Out of the box it does come loaded with a lot of Toshiba non-sense but a free downloaded start-up mechanic helped us remove all the stuff that we didn't want and now it starts even faster. Takes about 40 seconds to start fully up and connect to our wireless. Out of the box it took about a minute with all the Toshiba stuff, but now is much faster and the intel processer makes it feel like you could have 20 things going at once with no speed delays! It's about 5 pounds and it feels like a mini-laptop when toting it around, but is much faster and screen resolution is really great compared to our 2 year-old 17 inch laptop!It took about an hour to update all the windows software that was out of date, but with the processor and memory space, it would have probably taken double to triple that on a different machine.All in all, this is a pretty good budget friendly laptop that is very mobile and actually performs very well when tasked with having an Excel spreadsheet and word document open, 3 internet explorer windows and photo-shop photo editing all at the same time. I think the price of around $500 is a very reasonable deal and although it takes a bit of getting used to the smaller keyboard/screen compared to my old 17-inch - it's been well worth it thus far! Would recommend this machine to anyone who needs a basic laptop to take to work and use as a personal machine at home.

Perfect for school

I have had this laptop for a week now and i am very happy with it. Lightweight, powerful and full of features.. Perfect for me to take to class everyday. =)Update: about three weeks after purchase my laptop crashed.. would not turn on.. amazon quickly replaced it and have had no problems since... maybe it was a defective? i am still very happy with my laptop. i would suggest to buy a warranty with it, just in case. amazon is simply amazing with returns!

The Good and the Bad

I used this laptop for 3 weeks after getting a great "lightning deal" of $430. So it was worth a try with good application performance and adequate screen and keyboard. Downsides for me are that it is much heavier and gets about half the battery life as the Portege R835 we purchased last spring. I would have kept the L735 because of the great price but the breaking point came during a "recommended" bios update from Toshiba which led to a "verify error" and a dead machine. I've seen reports of this happening to other Satellite owners so I no longer trust the L735 and am replacing it with another Portege. If you get a Satellite, I'd recommend not doing a flash bios update yourself and if the machine is working ok, just leave it alone.

Great for the price! Even better after a few upgrades!

I'm a college student who just needed laptop for basic, general use. That includes basic internet browsing (often with many tabs), opening multiple, large, textbook-sized PDFs, running large powerpoints that professors often use and running programs like Skype, usually all at the same time. I'm also a computer enthusiast; I'm accustomed to high performance parts.And I chose this laptop.------------------------------------------BASIC INFOThis is the first laptop I've owned. Right out of the box, WEI rates the memory, desktop graphics and hard drive at 5.9, "gaming" graphics are rated at 6.5 and the processor is rated at 6.7; thus the overall system rating is 5.9.Like most laptops, this one also has bloatware. This was a nonissue for me since I did a clean installation of Windows 7.Note that the processor actually comes clocked at 1.5 GHz and not 1.4 GHz as Amazon has stated in the specifications.The laptop has 4GB of memory; there are two sticks of 2GB RAM. The model is Samsung M471B5773CHS-CH9. 512MB of memory is shared with the APU, leaving 3.47GB for the rest of the system.The 1.3 MP camera works. Nothing much else to say about this.------------------------------------------AESTHETICSIts design is sleek and simple. Nothing gaudy and that's how I like it.The laptop has a glossy screen which may present glare problems if you use it outdoors. There is no glare when used indoors unless you're in exceptionally bright lighting. The monitor's viewing angle is decent; people sitting next to you shouldn't have a problem viewing your screen. There's no indicator light for when the webcam is activated.The spaced out keys make it slightly easier to type, but there has never been a laptop keyboard I truly ever liked. Sadly, there are no indicators for caps lock or num lock.The status indicator LEDs (power, HDD activity, etc.) are not overly bright. Good.The speakers aren't anything spectacular, but I wasn't expecting them to be great.------------------------------------------PERFORMANCE AT STOCK SETTINGS, STOCK PARTSBattery life is pathetic. It has six cells, but that is irrelevant as there is no industry standard for cell size. What matters is the rating in watt-hours; for this battery, it's rated at 48 watt-hours. That means it can provide 48 watts for one hour. This laptop uses 18-25 watts during normal use and up to 40-47 watts with more intensive loads, such as gaming. With that said, the battery will only last 2-3 hours at best. Don't expect to game for more than an hour on battery.At idle and maximum brightness, the laptop draws 13.8-14.4 watts of power. At idle and minimum brightness, power draw falls to 10.3-10.9 watts. Based on those measurements, the battery will only last the advertised four hours if you leave the laptop idle.I stressed it for one hour with Prime95; no errors or warnings occurred.While stressing it with Prime95, power draw stays around 44-46 watts. CPU temperature went up to a maximum of 64°C (about 150°F) which is well within acceptable ranges, even for a mobile processor. Temperature was monitored using Core Temp. If those temperatures alarm you, keep in mind this was a stress test that runs the computer at 100% for the entire duration of the test; temperatures will not reach those numbers under normal usage.The fan speeds up as temperature rises, but it isn't noisy. During the stress test, the bottom gets warm enough to be uncomfortable if it was in your lap; the left side of the keyboard surface also gets slightly warmer, but it is barely noticeable.The hard drive is a 500GB 5400 RPM Toshiba MK5059GSXP. It isn't terribly slow, but slow enough to make me impatient. Perhaps I'm just spoiled by the SSD I have on my desktop. Not a con, but not a good thing either. Most users probably won't notice a difference.As for gaming, Black Ops and Modern Warfare 3 runs at 30-40 FPS on medium textures and no AA. However, the frame rate isn't very stable and would be a problem in multiplayer; dropping down to the lowest settings smoothes things out considerably. Skyrim runs at 28-35 frames with a mix of medium-high settings. The frame rate isn't high, but in this case it is very playable because it stays stable and smooth. Heat was not a problem while gaming; I played Skyrim for two hours and the temperature averaged 56°C and reached a maximum of 61°C.------------------------------------------PERFORMANCE AFTER UPGRADES, OVERCLOCKINGI upgraded the memory to a set of 8GB (2x4GB) sticks from Corsair bought through Amazon; WEI memory rating went up to 7.3.I plan on replacing the hard drive with a 128GB SSD, most likely a Crucial M4 or a Samsung 830. I'm just waiting for a good sale.At stock, the A6 processor is clocked at 1.5 GHz @ 1.0125 volts. Using K10STAT 1.54, I have the processor overclocked to 2.1 GHz at the same voltage. I ran Prime95 for 24 hours without errors or warnings. Interestingly enough, I can also undervolt and overclock it at the same time to 2.0 GHz @ 0.9875 V.------------------------------------------CONCLUSIONWith Prime's free two day shipping and at $399.99 I paid, this is a great laptop. I'm quite happy with my purchase.Because it is an APU, the CPU and GPU are closer to each other physically and logically, allowing it to perform much better than it otherwise would. I don't plan on gaming on this, but it's nice to know it performs decently well.The battery life sucks, but I don't mind bringing the charger with me. Once classes resume in the fall, the only place I'll be using the laptop is in the labs or library between classes. I'm there for four-seven hours at a time anyway which pushes the limits of most batteries anyway.

Amazing for the price! Worth every penny!

I have been researching laptops for quite a few weeks before I decided to purchase this one. The goal for me was to find a laptop powerful enough for gaming for $500 or less. Yes, the options were very low, but then I found this beauty. I can play games like World of Warcraft and League of Legends at nearly the highest settings with no screen tearing, lag, etc. Everything runs surprisingly smooth. I've played WoW for a few hours in a row without the laptop overheating. I would also like to mention that this laptop is very quiet. It is not noisy at all.Pros-Powerful for the price-No noise when on for hours even in games-No overheating-Keys are nice and quiet-Sleek and attractive design-Etc!Cons-Speakers are not the greatest, but not a huge enough flaw to worry about in my opinion-Can't think of anything else!So yes, I must give it a 5 out of 5! This laptop is worth every penny! If you are on a tight budget but desire a laptop for gaming, this is the laptop for you!

Good for price

I bought this to replace my desktop which was getting old 6 or 7 years old now). With a budget of 56 hundred dollars. After lots of researching, I came across this as the best deal. Acer listed the price at $499, but when I cam to Amazon it was $429, compared to other sites which had it for over $500. It has been a week or so since I got this, and I'm impressed. It is my first laptop and I wasn't sure what to expect. It runs games and other programs smoothly, and the machine stays cool most of the time. I ran WoW at 30 FPS steady on all settings set at "Good" and I run League of Legends at 25-30 frames on "High" settings. For the price and a decent upgrade for an older computer, I recommend this.

A fantastic mid-range laptop. Great for college students.

Not too long ago, I needed to buy a new laptop computer since my old Dell computer nearly died. (There was some sort of hard drive problem that would only allow me to start up in 'safe mode.') After scouring Amazon for several days, I decided upon this Toshiba Satellite computer. It seemed like the best value for the money I was willing to spend.Pros:Big screen -- This is great for watching movies in true 16:9 ratio. The screen is also really bright so you won't miss any details.It has a number pad -- I really like being able to use 10-key typing to enter numbers in documents and web sites. Having a number pad is surprisingly necessary.Fast start-up / Fast wake-up -- This computer has enough resources to start up quickly from an off state. The start-up feels like it could be a little bit faster, but, again, it is still significantly faster than my old Dell. I usually don't put my computers in hibernation mode when I walk away for any extended period of time, so I can't critique that feature of this computer.Stylish -- This computer looks sleek and sophisticated. It is a real joy to look at.Generous system resources -- This computer has 4GB of RAM and 500GB of hard disk capacity. It also has those new Intel processors that feature "hyper-threading" technology. Since Windows 7 is a system hog, a new laptop should at least have 6GB of RAM, but 4GB seems to be just fine for this machine. I can switch quickly between programs, start programs quickly, and end them quickly, too. A 500GB hard disk is just an astoundingly huge amount of storage space. There is more than enough space for photos and movies.The mouse-pad -- I don't know how Toshiba did it, but the mouse-pad is the coolest feature of the laptop. The mouse-pad looks like it was spray-painted on top of the plastic shell. It also works really well AND it offers multi-touch functionality. If you need to increase the size of the font on a web page, all you do is spread two fingers on the mouse-pad. It is actually pretty damn cool.Cons:Atrocious speakers -- OK, the worst feature in this computer are the absolutely horrible speakers. The sound that comes from them is tinny and without depth. I find it interesting, to say the least, that Toshiba would have a mid-range computer with decent hardware specs but include insufficient speakers. Whoduthunk?Not enough ports / Bad port locations -- Again, for the amount of hardware specs this computer has, Toshiba only included 2 USB ports. The laptop shell is spacious enough to include 4 USB ports without any problems. My old Dell laptop had 4 USB ports. Also, the USB ports and power DC-in locations are really inconvenient: They are located on the right side of the machine. Most people are right-handed BUT protruding cords interferes with desk space which, in turn, limits the space that most people might have because of the locations of the ports. The USB ports and DC-in power port should be re-located to the back of the machine.Other details:The computer is finished with a matte black plastic shell. Just so you know, matte (any color) shows off every single speck of dust and finger print! After I type this review I'm going to wipe down the whole machine with a clean cotton cloth. Also, the keys are matte black, too, so they really show off finger prints! Don't laptop manufacturers know that laptops are dirty machines?! This laptop also weighs 6lbs. For me, it isn't heavy, but for others it might be too heavy.Final thoughts:Overall, I really like this laptop. It has plenty of resources for a multitude of applications. I can play some graphically intense games without too many problems. It has plenty of processing speed, RAM, and hard disk space for just about anything you can throw at it. This is a great all-around mid-range laptop. The only reason I didn't give this laptop a 5-star rating is because there simply are not enough USB ports, and the locations of the ports should be on the back of the machine instead of the right side. The speakers are also sub-par for what could have been included.

Good laptop for the price

I got this laptop about 1 week ago, and I am generally pleased with the quality. Everything worked smoothly out of the box, and it's been working flawlessly with my wireless N D-link router. Toshiba's functions key controls for hibernating, changing video output, etc are well designed and intuitive to use.On the minus side, the speakers are a bit tinny sounding. The video output is adequate for casual movie viewing, but will not satisfy someone looking for HD like video. This notebook has integrated graphics without a discrete video card and would not support high end games with 3D graphics. I also could not get an older game like diablo 2 to work. Additionally, Toshiba does note recommend trying to upgrade the video card (although it's possible), and doing so would void the warranty.On a side note, I tried this computer with Toshiba Dynadock and did not find the speed sufficient for smooth operation. I would not try to dock this computer, or in general any computer that is not designed to be docked.Overall, this is good computer for the price. It will be good for work and casual video viewing, but do not plan on playing games or using it for watching high quality video.

Love it!

I purchased this Toshiba Satellite laptop approximately one month ago and I love it. It does everything I want it to do and more. The display on the monitor is gorgeous. The keyboard is the perfect size and I absolutely love the number pad. I always said that if they would just put a number pad on a laptop that I would buy it. So I Did! I have had a few little quirks with Windows 7, software wise, but I was able to navigate through them. The webcam works well enough for what I use it for. The facial recognition software can sometimes be a bear, but for the most part works.The only think I would change about this computer is the glossy black keyboard and outer shell. It shows fingerprints like you would not believe, but I have learned to adapt. I also love the mouse. It is integrated into the keyboard surround and looks the same but it has a different texture. Overall, two very enthusiastic thumbs up and a great buy for a busy mom, college student or anyone just looking for a functional computer that is relatively inexpensive.
