4laptop review

Pros: Massive CPU and RAM and a decent graphics card that will run pretty much all games on low (left for dead on high without lag) energy saver modeCons: battery life no blueray or bluetoothThis is a great computer over all id give it 5 starts but it has at most a 2 hour battery life(the more possessor you use the more power) and the point of a laptop is the battery so you can take it with you anywhere and use it without wires!

1Terrible Computer (Have owned for almost 3 years)
By Chris
I bought this computer around summer 2010. Since then, I've sent it back for repair around 5 times! 2 Speaker repairs, and 3 Motherboard replacements (hard drive, graphics card, and NIC have all failed and needed replaced several times). Today, after it is out of warranty and after sending it back several times, the computer will only boot half of the time and the Wireless card has failed.A laptop should last more than 2 years, and a motherboard should last more than 6 months after replacement. Toshiba uses cheap parts.I'd recommend going with another brand, will never buy another Toshiba again.

3Decent
By Lambert
I've had this computer for over a year now, and using it as I write. However, there are a few problems as others have already noted. One is the overheating problem. I remember the computer turned off by itself when I was trying to play a NFS demo the week I got the laptop. I didn't send it in for repairs, but I eventually got a cooling pad that seemed to have solved part of the problem (still, games like HON won't work on this because it'll just turn off). Also, if I try to watch a 2 hour movie on this laptop without the cooling pad, it'll most likely turn off.Another problem I've had is with the keyboard. My left shift key won't work with a specific column of keys (the "8ik," column). For example, if I try to type in a capital "I," I can't use the left shift key to do it; I'd have to use the right (which I just did, 3 times). This is a pretty big annoyance because those letters are in an awkward position with the right shift key.The keys can get a bit oily. After more than a year of use, I can see the imprints of my fingertips (kind of like the keyboards at school or at the library, but not as bad). Another thing about the material is that it catches dust real easily. The part of the laptop on the top panel of the keyboard where all the touch-sensitive keys are located is usually very dusty for me. You'll probably have to wipe it down at least once a week. The touchpad takes a little bit of time to get used to, but once you do, it's pretty nice for a PC touchpad. It's no Apple touchpad, but you still have the 2-finger scrolling (including side scrolling), font size adjustment, 1-finger scrolling (on the right and bottom edges of the touchpad), and the right and left mouse buttons underneath.About the speakers - they're by Harman Kardon, but they definitely don't sound like Harman Kardon quality. I guess laptop speakers are just weak in general.Battery life and portability aren't great either. When I'm browsing the internet, watching Youtube, etc. I can get about an hour max. If I'm just writing a paper on Word, I can get 1.5hrs, which is still not good. Also, the laptop is a bit big and heavy, and it barely fits into a Northface. Still, you probably won't have to go and buy a backpack specifically for this laptop.I guess there are a few good things about it also, since I am giving it 3 stars. One is the number pad - it's very useful when you have to plug in numbers to Excel or do some calculations. Another good thing is the number of ports - there are 3 USB 2.0's, an HDMI, SATA, and others that I don't know and have never used. Along with that is a DVD player/ CD burner, which is nice to have. And of course, there is the speed. More than a year old and it's still running pretty fast. I can have multiple tabs open and still play a game or watch a movie no problem. It's not the most up-to-date i7, but it's still pretty great. Here are the numbers from the Windows Experience Index, updated about 2 weeks ago:Processor: 7.0Memory: 5.9Graphics: 4.8Gaming Graphics: 5.9Primary hard disk: 5.9These numbers haven't changed much in the past year (I think it was only the graphics that went from a 4.9 to a 4.8), so this laptop is still serving me well. However, it cost about $980 with tax when I got it. As a student, I should've gone with a cheaper option but I still think this laptop is pretty great! (Even though this review is titled, "Decent," this laptop grew on me).
