5best laptop I have owned
By jdbj34m
I am going to write this from my perspective, meaning the things that are important to me. I dont use massaive amounts of storage through video and photo editing, things like that. I am an environmental science major and i bought this for several reasons among them the power savings features. This comes with an A8 processor with turbo boost technology on it. that means it runs slow for low end applications such as email or watching movies and then speeds up when needed for more demanding programs. This saves on power consumption and on the life of the battery and laptop. I really like this feature. It also has two graphics cards, which for a laptop under 500 is unheard of. I like that this is also lightweight and for the most part well built, The lid is a bit flimsy but you shouldnt have to worry about that unless you drop it or mess with it too much. The one thing i do not like on it is the power cord is a bit flimsy, otherwise it is a great machine. One more note, I changed the operating system but for some reason all the drivers worked fine except the AMD graphics drivers so if you plan on putting linux or some other OS it may take some tinkering to do it. Overall this is a great laptop and well worth the 500 dollars. I ran the windows index experience on this machine; the highest score possible on the machine was 5.9, two of the subscores were 5.9 and the lowest subscore was 5.5. Thats how good a machine it is.

5Definitely Take This Laptop Seriously!
By Travis Keatley
At first, I was a bit skeptical about what I would be getting with this "budget" laptop. The specs were there: quad core, decent graphics processor, plenty of hard drive space, ample ram, yet I was still worried that the actual performance would not match the numbers.Boy was I wrong. This laptop absolutely blows my mind! The initial set-up took a while to complete, I would say roughly two hours. This included getting Windows all booted up and removing the bloatware that was present on the machine, and there was a good amount of that. however, after that was all said and done, I had about 420 GB of free space to work with. After I finished removing the bloatware, I proceeded with loading my favorite browsers and music players, and these all went without a hitch. I also downloaded the latest drivers for the notebook off of the AMD website, something I definitely recommend you do as well. After all was set-up and ready to go, I knew I wanted to push the laptop and see what it could do. I immediately downloaded Battlefield 3 and began to play a multiplayer map. Needless to say, even with 32 people shooting and "blowing up stuff" around me, this laptop never skipped a beat. Of course, the expectations have to be realistic, but I had most of the settings on medium and the game actually played smoothly! This is amazing because this machine is not touted to be a gaming rig, but it is wholly capable if you want to play a round or two to pass time. Now, the speakers are tinny sounding, and a good set of headphones or external speakers would be recommended for extended use. However, I am beyond impressed for a sub-$500 laptop to be performing like this. This laptop also plays 1080p like a champ, and can handle other processor-intensive programs with ease, such as video or picture editing. Netflix works well too.As far as aesthetics go, the laptop does not look cheap. The screen is a bit light in weight and has some flex to it, but as long as you are not wrenching on it it will be fine. The keyboard types well and is quiet, and the built in number pad was a feature that I missed on my old laptop, but now I have it!On a side note, the processor IS indeed QUAD-CORE even though there is mixed description in Amazon's ad above. I was a little worried until I received the laptop today, but all the specs check out. Also, some may think of Acer as a brand that is not reliable, but I am going on my 4th year with my previous Aspire 6920 and it has never let me down. As a matter of fact, it will soon be passed down in the family. I have found that if you take care of your laptop, it will take care of you and provide many years of great use.If you are looking for a laptop that can easily handle daily tasks, and still tear through the occasional shooter or video-editing project, look no further than this laptop. You can't beat this deal!

5Too good for a budget laptop
By aph05
With all of the bad hype from reviews, I was a little skeptical if I should buy it. I mean, come on--$500 with said quality processor and graphics? Too good to be true until I tested it out. Played L4D and TF2 on MAX and can probably play others on medium to high. What I like is AMD's interchangeability between demanding performance and battery life (no offense on Intel, I do like them), especially when I'm a portable-type person and being able to do ANYTHING on-the-go is a plus. The laptop itself is easy to manage, like the drivers and operations. So far nothing bad happening yet, but it does come with a lot of bloatware and has a relatively flimsy lid, but nothing detrimental or in the way. This laptop does well with multitasking--which I do heavily with photoshop, internet browsing, and word processing--as well as graphics, which runs fairly warm, but nowhere near overheating. Although it looks cheap with the plastic-type covering, don't let it fool you with the quality it reveals. The USB ports are a little stiff to jam in, which takes a lot of effort both ways. All of the other ports work quite well, and, as always, on-board speakers (regardless of using Dolby) suck fuzzily (although no problem with the mic, headphone, or webcam). The keyboard layout is quite nice and the addition of the keypad is very comfortable. Unfortunately, as I check the price again, it has dropped another $20 (and I wish I could redeem that), but at that price, it's a ridiculous steal (better than Newegg's tax and electronic waste fee!). I highly recommend this, despite Acer's reputation, because not all laptops are bad, just depends on how well you treat and care for them and what you really want out of what you pay for.
