Very Good Laptop at a Very Good Price

I got this laptop on a Gold Box Deal of the day. It was a gift for my wife. It has met and exceeded our expectations. It arrived in pristine condition. I would highly recommend this laptop to others looking for a middle of the road, all-around good performing laptop.Here are the reasons we are happy with the Samsung. The battery life is about 5 hours, even watching videos on Hulu and Netflix the entire time on maximum power consumption. It's more like 7 hours when put on the lowest setting.The keyboard spacing is good and typing is easy and your fingers almost 'glide' between key strokes. The screen is beautiful when turned on to full-power. It is truly a good HD experience and video playback is more than sufficient. Overall performance of the machine is perfect for what my wife uses it for; simple internet tasks, small bits of PDF formatting, word processing, research, and other basic everyday things. There are plenty of USB ports (3.0 ports included which are nice for larger files and photo uploading).The only flaw is that the keyboard being back-lit would have been a plus, but not at all necessary for her/us. It says the keyboard is back-lit on the product's page, but it isn't. Again, not really a deal breaker at all. Some parts of the laptop have cool looking LED's to it and that's nice, but still not necessary for our satisfaction.We have had the laptop for almost two months and this has been our experience. I have personally had two Toshiba laptops in the past 5 years, and my wife's Samsung surpasses both of them in quality I do believe. Albeit I have had more time to scrutinize the Toshibas. All-in-all, I would consider the Samsung first in my future purchases.

Purchased this laptop a couple of weeks ago. After reinstalling Windows to remove the bloatware, it has been running fantastic.There is no backlit keyboard but that is not a deal breaker for me.I selectively installed some of the Samsung software. Easy Settings can sometimes take a while to open and does not always keep my settings on reboot. This can be fixed by manually changing the settings in Windows. An example of this is when I shut all wireless functions off, it will not retain that setting on reboot. You will have to disable through Windows if you want that functionally off persistently.Easy Settings can be nice though as it will allow access to certain features of the laptop that otherwise might be more difficult to change. An example of this is the Battery Life Extender. You can turn it on or off through Easy Settings or through the BIOS setting. (Not difficult to change, but convenient so you don't have to reboot.)The computer itself runs very well overall and feels like a pretty solid device.Be aware that the NVIDIA Optimus requires drivers from Samsung to function correctly. The standard NVIDIA drivers won't install.

Touch Pad Buttons Stopped Working

Bought this laptop because it seemed to have everything I wanted for the price I wanted. Got it out of the box and was loving it. However, after putting it away for a couple hours and waking it back up I found I had no use of my mouse buttons - making it impossible for me to do anything on the laptop.What I discovered after one too many long conversations with Samsung that this is a recurring problem with this model that they blame on Windows update for disrupting the driver. Their fix - reset the computer.I was glad this problem showed itself the day I opened the computer rather than a month or two in. Returned it to Amazon and got my full refund.My advice - don't buy a computer that the company can't get a key piece like the mouse to work.
