5A Nice Suprise
By R. Marshall
I was waiting for a new Trinity based notebook but discovered that very few would be released in the 13.3in form factor. This lead me to start looking for something else. After a failed attempt to purchase an open box Viao at the local box store I stumbled upon this little beast.Windows treats the Dual Core i5 as a quad thanks to Hyper threading and the performance is not at all bad. I was very happy with the performance I encountered while setting it up and then later running a few games on it.Why Asus would choose to put 6GB in it rather then 4GB or 8GB is one of those questions that will never be answered. This basically means that if you want to put 8GB in it, you will have to throw away, donate, or store the 2GB SODIMM in one of the slots. That said, it does run in dual channel mode and has more than enough memory for just about anything you would want to do.The 1366x768 resolution is not bad, and at 13.3 and this price I really don't expect more. The screen is clear and sharp with solid viewing angles. With it positioned a bit high or low it did not wash out as some other less expensive Asus models are known to do.The dedicated graphics card built into this machine is a fairly entry level Nvidea card, the 1GB of dedicated graphics memory is adequate as most serious gamers are not going to be interested. On that note I have to say that I was impressed. Skyrim is a fairly graphics heavy game and it autodetect at Med-High settings. These proved to be right on the money. With FXAA on the game launched and played lag free through the entire introduction. My four real complaints are, and do take these with a grain of salt, every single manufacturer out there is doing the exact same thing: - 1. I should never have to agree to the terms and conditions for Microsofts Bing Bar to use a laptop I bought. Yes, I am going to uninstall it but I did not ask for it to be there in the first place and it has nothing to do with nor impact on the operation of the machine. I am happy Asus is collecting a check for that, but next time make it an option. - 2. Tell me what all this bloatware is so that I can figure out what to uninstall without having to resort to Google. There are something like 15 or 20 different Asus apps for things like special effects when using the webcam all mixed in with important software such as the video drivers (Fairly easy to identify). - 3. Why is the hard drive split into three partitions? Two makes sense with Express Gate, but 3? It isn't like we are being provided with a restore partition anymore, why is the OS on a separate partition from the Data? Yes, the 250GB partition for the OS is large enough to install almost anything an end user could want, but if they wish to make use to the "DATA" partition that is problem. I learned that when I installed an SSD in my desktop and had to fall back on the D drive. Some software doesn't even include an option to install to any drive but C. - 4. What happened to install media? First the CD/DVD was taken out and the nightmare of restore partitions happened. Now, rather then deal with the myriad my hard drive crashed and I lost my OS complaints we are greeted with the wonderful option to make a backup DVD. 1. Not everyone has these just laying around. 2. This machine has no drive. It does give the end user the option to create .iso files, which I have tucked away on an external, but how many people know what an .iso is or how to use that file to restore this machine should something happen? I ask this question from experience, not with the intent to insult anyone.Enough complaining about things every manufacturer is doing. All that said, you would hard pressed to find a better machine at this price.

5Best Laptop Ever!
By Hieu
This is my seventh laptop I've owned in the past decade and it is by far the best all around. I did thorough research and even waited half a year before finally making the purchase. So far I've only had about a week's worth of experience using it but it doesn't take very long to recognize and appreciate quality. ASUS and MSI are both powerhouses when it comes to producing high end and quality computer products. Popular computer brands will have their parts made by either ASUS or MSI for their high end lines of computers. In terms of practicality and functionality, this little machine meets all of my needs. I picked this one in particular for it's versatility for business use. With over 7+ hours of moderate to high system resources use, it has meet and exceeded my expectations on battery life. If used moderately to low, I know I can definitely squeeze out 10+ hours with ease. The Optimus technology was a big selling point for me as well the slim form factor and the dedicated graphics card. Equipped with a Core i5 processor, there is no short of processing power when I need it. 750GB of HD space is more than sufficient for my computing needs. In addition, ASUS did not skimp out when it came to RAM either. Bluetooth, USB 3.0, and the multi-card reader slot is just icing on the cake. Some people may be particular about the click button for the mouse pad but I found it to be a familiar sound I've experienced with the past laptops. No overheating issues that I've noticed. I really dig the aluminum cover for the lid as well, giving it a sophisticated and modern look/feel.Portability: 5 starsBattery Life: 5 starsWireless Connectivity: 5 starsStorage Size: 5 starsCPU & RAM: 5 starsDesign: 5 starsContentedness of purchase: 5 stars =)As you can see, I really love this laptop and gave it 5 stars across the board. In regards to the lack of an optical drive, which is common for this class of laptops, I purchased an ASUS external portable USB DVD Writer Combo drive for a mere 35 bucks. Problem solved! In conclusion, I would not only highly recommend this to all friends, family, and colleagues, but would parade it around to every coffee shop and WIFI friendly locations around the world if I had the chance!

5Very Nice Ultrabook. Lite and Fast
By Mike R
I originally started reviewing all the ultrabooks and found that the Toshiba R835-P94 13.3-Inch Laptop because it had all the features I was looking for including a built in CD player. Once I received the unit I found that it had an issue with the audio - it would glitch and change pitch even playing the sample songs that came with the system.I had it exchanged through Amazon and the replacement did exactly the same thing. I contacted Toshiba support and they had me do the typical things like replace the audio drivers and settings - nothing helped. This system has and issue and Toshiba needs to look into it. I returned that system.I reviewed the customer comments on the Asus and found very high praise and although the system did not have a built in CD, it was close in price.Once I received the Asus, you can see it's quality is much better then the Toshiba and the keyboard is much nicer. The Toshiba keys are flat and very slippery and causes many mistypes.I also say the Asus seemed much faster and once you turn off a lot of the freebee apps that come with it, it's a very nice system. I did purchase an external CD/DVD for it and at least now I have that option if I want.Last thing is my satisfaction with Amazon itself as if not for purchasing directly from them, it might have been a hassle to return the Toshiba systems for full credit. When purchasing high dollar items, I try to stick with ones sold directly from Amazon because of their fast customer service and also the 12 month interest free was a bonus.
