Amazing Laptop! Perfect for Sweet 16 Birthday!

Being the totally cool, hip mom that I am (lol)...I thought this laptop would make a great birthday gift for my daughter's Sweet 16. She's been nagging me (lots of eyerolls and "Mooooom!" involved) for her own laptop since she currently uses a netbook to go online to do the "mission critical" work she does (i.e. downloading MP3s, chatting with friends on AIM, using Facebook, Gaia, etc). In the sad & desperate hope that she might use this (eventually) for educational purposes (riiight...), I purchased this Acer laptop.It has Windows 7 home premium & runs FAST! The look & feel of this laptop is wonderful. I must say this is my 2nd Acer product & thus far, their devices rock!I would like to add is that I got it from Best Buy for $329.00 (yeah, I'm also surprised their price was WAY cheaper than Amazon) so if you hurry, you can get one now for that price.

2 of these laptops in our household and 2 very different experiences

I purchased 2 of these laptops a little over a year ago. I purchased one for myself and one for my teenage daughter. My personal laptop has been wonderful. I've dropped it and broken out one of the hinges, but it's still plugging along at full speed without any damage to the screen. I've only noticed 2 drawbacks with my Acer. First, it overheats. Keep it raised or on a cooling mat if you're going to be using it for an extended length of time because the computer will lock up and/or shut down if it's not kept cool. Second, I'm a casual gamer and have had a go around or two with several of the graphics drivers hogging cpu and locking up the system. I'm not talking about playing WoW..we're talking hidden object adventures. Other than this, my experience has been fairly positive.Now...there's my daughter's computer. She has kept it religiously clean and only rarely taken it with her to friends houses. Unfortunately BOTH usb ports burned out. This laptop has NO expansion capability so once those ports are gone, there's no way to print without saving to the memory card reader (which is NOT a multi-functional reader) and transferring the file to another computer. USB ports are permanently attached to the motherboard so a complete replacement would have to be made in order to utilize USB. Adding insult to injury, the USB ports shorted out causing a domino effect where her battery charger would periodically get feedback and burn out. The replacement cost for Acer's battery charger's are outrageously expensive. We have been using the bargain priced chargers here on Amazon and have managed to destroy 4 of them so far.I did some research and found that the usb port issue is very common with this laptop, so be forewarned. The ports on my laptop were uncommonly tight and I had to very, very, gently wiggle the connection in order to get them to slide into place. This is probably where my daughter's laptop got damaged.So, in conclusion, by my experience you have a 50/50 shot of getting a reasonably priced well working laptop. 2.5 stars.

I believe this is a great laptop. I'm very impressed with all the features Acer packed into it.It's design is very well thought out, and i would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a great deal.The battery life on this laptop is equal or better than the latest Apple products.
