4Great with two exceptions
By Anonymouse
I used the one day shipping and got it on Tuesday (i ordered it on Sunday so it shipped Monday and came Tuesday). the packaging was great and there were no marks or signs of abuse on the package or the product box inside the shipping box.the screen is beautiful. The LED not only saves battery but makes every image on the screen pop. Even without 1080p resolution, it is an absolutely beautiful screen. i have not played any games yet so i have been able to use the NVIDEA graphics card yet, but i am sure those are more than adequate for the games i play.the speakers are not exactly what i hoped for from JBL with a sub woofer. the sub woofer is about the same size, maybe even slightly smaller than the two 2w speakers. not much bass at all and not as crisp or clear as i would like, but they are extremely loud when the volume is high. this is nice because i can hear music throughout my entire room without having the volume all the way up. wish JBL and Samsung had spent some more time to add software to adjust the speakers sound (other than the audio software that comes with the sound processor, which is under par). Some custom JBL software would have been great. The Keyboard is alright. i bought a wireless back lit keyboard with this laptop to go with he wireless mouse i already have so i don't use the keyboard much.i do wish the keyboard was back lit to but i guess they were saving money.Everything above doesn't really matter to me (the speakers and the keyboard) because i use a wireless keyboard and most of the time my computer is plugged into my sound system which may be why the sound doesn't sound crisp to me. My sound system is extremely good so it has kind of spoiled me. Now for the two things that i much complain about that i do care about: the hard drive and the chassis.the hard drive first: the hard drive that comes with this laptop is a hitachi, which is cheap but fine. my biggest complaint about the laptop in regards to the hard drive is the fact that it is SATAII. SATAII transfers data at 3.0gb/s while SATAIII transfers at 6.0gb/s. this is a big difference. Also the usuable space on the hard drive is 675GB. 75GB for formatting and recover? that is a lot. I am hoping that the motherboard does have SATAIII but Samsung only put in a SATAII hdd as they are backwards compatible. i ordered a new Samsung ssd (Samsung 830 - Series MZ-7PC256N/AM 256 GB 2.5 Inch SATA III MLC Internal SSD Laptop Kit with Norton Ghost 15) to go into this laptop even before i knew how bad the drive is. SATAII will severely hinder the performance of my new ssd so i hope it does support SATAIII. Also a recovery partition of 75GB is way to much on a 256GB ssd. this ssd cost me about $1 per GB so i am paying $75 for a recovery partition? way to much. The chassis: i was led to believe that like the other 5 series laptops from samsung, this would have an aluminum chassis with some sort of either fiber glass or plastic bottom casing. this is not so. the entire chassis is made from plastic. there is one removable compartment at the bottom for access to the hhd and ram and other stuff. this has made me sad and is the big reason why i am not giving it 5 stars. i am replacing the hhd so that didn't really deduct from 5 stars but this definitely did.overall it is an extremely good computer for the price. i only really pointed out the bad parts of this computer but there were many good: the screen, the processor is amazing, Nvidea graphics and intel hd graphics 4000, the mouse pad, the built in keyboard looks nice and is nice to type on, it does have a sub woofer so a little more bass than most laptops can dream of, and it comes with USB 3.0 (sleep and charge is off by default for some reason so if you wan to use this feature, you must go into the BIOS and change this. i recommend going into bios and changing all of the settings to what you would like because the hhd is set to first boot priority and i like the optical drive to be first, sleep and charge is off, and there were a few other things that were off when i prefer them to be on) and HDMI. also the Bluetooth is nice because u can play music from any Bluetooth device without having to transfer the music to the computer first. this great especially because the speakers can be extremely loud.i love this computer and hope it lasts me a very long time!

5Initial impressions
By rusty
I opened the box this afternoon and have been playing around with the machine. So far every thing is as expected. It is nice having a full keyboard. So far it feels great although it may take a little while to get used to where a few of the keys are.The track pad is a bit less responsive than I like but I don't really like track pads anyhow so I'm probably a bad judge. I had an external mouse plugged in before windows finished its initial boot.I like the screen. I haven't had it out in bright light but glare seems to be minimal and the brightness has been sufficient. It is not really a gaming laptop but still runs games nicely with the graphics at reasonably high settings although the left side where the fan vents gets a little hot when it is working hard but that is to be expected. The sound is great. Some of the best sound I've heard yet from a laptop. The body feels and looks solid with the exception of the optical drive drawer which sticks out a little. The screen seems pretty solid. It does flex easily if you exert pressure on both corners in different directions but you can close and open it from near a corner without it flexing to much and the image is never distorted from the flexing.I haven't tested the battery yet so I don't know about battery life.I also haven't tested the webcam or mic yet.Over all I would say it is a great machine.I'll update with more details after I've had it for a while and used it some more.EDIT:The space bar squeaks the optical drive button is in just the wrong place so I eject the tray every other time I pick the computer up. I understand making this kind of mistake on a computer design ten years or so ago when laptops were still relatively new, but come on, you've been making them long enough you should get this right by now.

5This thing is amazing!
By Tony
I've gotta say, this bad boy is just incredible. In the time that i've had it, I've had almost nothing bad to write about it.Sound: The sound is amazing. Nothing bad about it in any way, shape, or form. I truly love the speakers on it.Keyboard: Pretty normal. I've got nothing special to add about it, it feels pretty much the same as any other laptop keyboard i've used.Display: Samsung could've done a little better with the display. It's crisp and very bright, but viewing from an angle to watch something will prove difficult. All in all, I find it acceptable-ish.Graphics: Mother of god. This thing is just great. To all of you wondering what kind it is exactally: It's the GF108/40nm version, not the fermi version which I was hoping for. But nonetheless, it's performance is just incredible. I can play games like Tribes: Ascend, Just Cause 2, and a bunch of other games in the highest detail level possible without lag. Just amazing.Form Factor: It's very slim. Not ultrabook slim, but I would say close to it. The back is very plasticy and poslished sliver in color, which could attract a few fingerprints here and there. The vents on the left side don't get very noisy, but they will get a bit hot when doing something very CPU intensive.Touchpad: I've seen other reviewers get picky with it, but once you go into the control panel and actually set it up properly, you'll have no trouble with it. My fingers fly across it no problem.Battery: Although it says you'll get around 6.4 hours, this is a lie. In real world usage (Browsing the web, watching youtube videos, working with microsoft word, etc), I've gotten around 4 hours in total on it. Gaming with it, however, is nothing something I would suggest as it only took around an hour or so for it to go from 100% to 0. I am personally going to by an aftermarket battery though, as what I do requires me to work in the field for a very long time.Software: Mainly all of it is bloatware. Try to clean out as much as you can, but try to save the important intel programs.Summary: This thing is just simply amazing. The CPU on this is beyond most laptops, as is the graphics card. I promise you will not be disappointed if you choose to buy.
