5Money well spent!
By hacker girl in Colorado
FYI! The person who posted here, does not have this laptop! SO, don't listem to him/her. I just bought the Laptop four days ago. I've had a chance to use it for couple days now. The screen feel large for a 15.5 inch screen. I was impressed by the crystal clear screen. It's got the same resolution as a HD LED TV! I did add additional 4gig of memory. The weight is so light and the keyboard feel nice to type on. The backlit keyboard is nice to have. Nothing feels cheap. It's nice to not have anything plastic parts. Only plastic I have found is in the DVD/CD tray. The battery life is really good. I was able to go for over 3 1/2 hours before I had to plug it in. This is good choice if you need a sturdy and long lasting laptop. It's worth the extra money. I am a big computer geek and really know my laptops, so I am giving you good advice!

2AWFUL! Cheap Plastic! Bad Fan Location! Fan Noise!
By Neil S. Majd
I was really excited about this laptop until it I saw it and used it.The huge cosmetic surprise was that this laptop is essentially ALL PLASTIC. Some reviewer said it is aluminum which is totally wrong. Every major external part is made of plastic (like many laptops). The biggest functional flaw is by far the FAN PLACEMENT. It is located on the BACK of the laptop. Normally this isn't a bad thing, except on this laptop, when you open the lid/screen, IT BLOCKS THE FAN. IT'S SO FUNNY. I can't imagine who would design something so stupid? If you open the lid/screen, it essentially blocks the fan causing the fan to run harder and harder making a lot of noise. Essentially Sony sacrificed function for style (cooling and fan placement is not something you want compromised).CONS:-FAN PLACEMENT (See above)-Fan runs on high and very loud even for minimal loads-ALL PLASTIC BODY (the plastic seems sort of cheap and light, likely to reduce the weight)-Battery is life not good (less than would be expected for a 15.6")-Only three USBs, all placed on one side-It just has a weird look to it. It's nothing like the more or less standard look you find on HPs or MacBook Pros. It looked amazing in the pictures, but I didn't like how it looked in person. I think the square, sharp edges and corner (instead of round ones) have a lot to do with it.-The "Stamina" or "Speed" manual switch on the top left of the keyboard is almost unique to this laptop. It is used to switch between integrated or discrete graphs. Normally this is a plus, except this laptop CANNOT HANDLE THE HEAT from "Speed" or discrete graphs so you always leave it on "Stamina"PROS:-Very light, among the lightest 15.6" laptops you will find (the cheap plastic probably helps with that)-Very comfortable keyboard (similar to Lenovo keyboards)-Full HD 1920x1080 resolution (major plus)-IPS LED Backlit technology on the monitor (again, major plus)CONCLUSION: This laptop is a very light weight 15.6" laptop with an incredible display. Just expect an ALL PLASTIC body and expect loud fan noise even under minimal loads. Surprisingly, heat was not an issue, but very loud fan noise was.

5Huge Bargain for A Quasi-Ultrabook -OR- A Big-Boy Laptop
By Harris A. Reynolds Jr.
I bought this Vaio exactly 3 months ago to replace a Toshiba laptop that was nearly six years old and couldn't be upgraded beyond the opsys from hell (MS Vista). The Toshiba got UBUNTU operating system (free), and is used for linux tinkering. The wife (former "Business Intelligence Director" data warehouse person), my son (MS Petroleum Engineering) and the daughter (1st year Med Student) all have last-gen iPads which they use constantly. The anatomy & dissection apps are particularly detailed, which is to say disgusting. An iPad won't work for me, as I need to do old-fashioned Big Boy stuff (massive spreadsheets, engineering software, Adobe Pro, VPN connection, etc.) which require a fast laptop. I looked at the Mac Air and the Samsungs, but couldn't see any reason to spend well over $1000. Also wanted a CD-ROM drive; I don't use it much anymore, but it sure comes in handy for older stuff.I bought mine from the SONY store on sale (marginally cheaper than AMAZON, but essentially a wash); it was custom-made in PRC and shipped to my door in about 10 days.In 10 words or less, it's a Sony-quality 125% Ultrabook for Big Boy work. Screen, battery life, and keyboard are superb. Keypad is GREAT for spreadsheets. Track pad isn't as good as the Mac Air, but the $600+ savings would buy a fancy exhaust for my VFR1200F motorbike.I was so impressed that I bought the 13 inch Series "T" Sony Ultrabook for my daughter. Now she keeps an anatomy textbook open on the iPad while she watches cadaver dissection videos on the SONY. How's that for a 5-star recommendation: the Sony screens are so good, they'll make you unable to eat flank steak for a month. If money is not an issue, get the Mac Air. It's STYLISH and you will be the envy of your friends. But remember, I bought this computer PLUS the Sony 13 inch Series T Ultrabook for about what you paid for your Air. And I didn't have to talk to some "genius".PS: buy it with the base RAM, then buy a 4 gig SDRAM module from AMAZON for about $25. Installation requires a small phillips screw driver and 3 minutes.PPS: the fan CAN BE a bother, but ONLY with super processor-intensive apps, e.g. games. But gamers shouldn't be looking at this machine anyway. Remember, I said BIG BOY laptop.
