5I f'ing love this laptop.
By thor3
This laptop is awesome, and especially in this configuration. When I set out looking for a long-overdue new laptop, my hopes were low that, after years of lugging around a 7.5 lb behemoth, I'd find a laptop that had a 15" or larger screen, was thin, less than 5 lb, and looked good to boot, especially as I wanted a Windows machine. And, as I've found that at 16:9 even 15" screens can be too short for me vertically, I also hoped to get one that was 1080p, to make everything a bit smaller.I did find a number of different options, but they all included some significant sacrifice on my requirements, e.g. heavier than I liked, adding a 1080p screen was prohibitively expensive, onboard graphics only, wireless that couldn't connect at 300Mbps, thick and ugly. The closest I had come to finding what I wanted was the Dell XPS 15z, which I ultimately thought looked too much like a MacBook wanna-be.Enter the new Sony VAIO VPCSE. I happened to have seen an early review by CNET, and was amazed that here was a machine that appeared to meet pretty much all of my requirements; I was most impressed that it had a 15.5" display and was only 4.4 lbs! The 1080p, thinness, dual graphics cards, and good looks sealed the deal for me and I decided to wait until it came out. Suffice to say that every day I am impressed by this laptop. The screen looks amazing, and I like the extras like the dedicated number pad, Blu-ray, backlit keyboard, TPM chip, large touch pad, and USB 3.0. I also like having the option of buying the extended "sheet" battery, which adds just minimal weight and thickness. I like this configuration because it's a good mix of features vs. nice price, in that I've read that the performance difference with the i7 isn't worth the extra cost, plus you get 6GB RAM and the Blu-ray drive. I also like the silver because it doesn't show fingerprints like the black version. One upgrade I did do immediately however was to swap out the HDD with a 7200 RPM drive.Sure, I can nitpick and find flaws, which I'm sure you can with any machine, including the holy MacBooks. Yes, when the CPU is under heavy load, the fan can be a bit loud. But, I've only seen this so far to be the case while running games like Battlefield BC2, and not during everyday use (in fact, I'm more likely to only barely hear the still whisper-quiet 7200 RPM HDD). But, remember that this is a very thin, very light laptop. If you want a laptop that runs extremely cool, get one that's thicker, heavier, has a fan that can pull a greater volume of air. Better yet, get a desktop, and get it liquid cooled. But, if you're looking for a laptop that is both large and light, powerful and good looking, this just might be what you're after.

2Loud Fan!!!!
By m244
At first, I really liked this laptop. It has sleek designs, and everything else seemed to be working fine. But after having this laptop for few months, I find that the fan will randomly start overheating and getting super loud!! I'm not doing anything that should take much power, it would just kick on while I'm on the internet (e.g. youtube, doing hw). It's annoying! And even though I tried to reboot it, the fan will continue. I don't know if it's updating or what, but I wish this would tell me beforehand. I'm even thinking about purchasing a new laptop to take to college, because I will not settle for this loud fan.

5Great product
By Lukas
Notebook is very fast and silent. Construction is robust, battery lasts long. Display is amazing and I like the back-light keyboard. Simply the hardware is perfect.I was surprised that I can control my Sony Television via some pre-installed software. But this is the only thing that I don't like -- there is a lot software pre-installed. But you can easily remove it, of course.I would recommend this laptop to my friends, because I am fully satisfied. Thanks Sony!
