5Great deal for the price
By Sean Dustman
PROS-At the time of printing, this might be the lowest price Core I7 laptop on the market, solid metal body which does not feel cheap at all. A huge 750 gig hard drive, keys were felt smooth to use and not too much bloatware. The sound is great and I was a little upset by the loss of a fingerprint reader until I realized that it had built in facial recognition software called Lenovo VeriFace which turns on the camera and it puts a Borg circle thing around your right eye and automatically logs you on (this StarTrek gear impressed me and my coworkers)No USB 3.0 (at least I haven't found it yet) which should be automatically included with any I7 processor, the mousepad takes some getting used to with the pebbled surface, while I like the keyboard, the number keys and the keyboard are squished together. The metal surface is nice but a fingerprint magnet. No Blueray player and only 4 gigs of RAM. Also, finding stats on the Lenovo website such as max RAM, what exactly is under the hood, those guys need to do some work on their web development, a polished product like this should be backed by good customer support online and PR, instead, you have to fight in circles to dig out gold nuggets of information. Also the included documentation in the box is skimpy.Overall-A great buy for the price, beautiful and quick laptop with a top of the line processor for half of the price I paid for my last laptop. So far it seems to do my HD video processing well which is why I upgraded. For a big purchase like this, so far I've had little buyer's remorse and would likely make the same purchase again.

5Great Laptop for the Price
By Arnold Law
I've had the computer for a few weeks now and it has been absolutely fantastic!Yes, it should have better screen resolution and a better graphics card. It's only 1366 x 768 and has an Intel HD 3000 graphics card, but honestly, you're paying half of what a normal Sandy Bridge Core i7 should cost. It's also got a lot of space, 750GB and the RAM can easily be upgraded with $50 to 8GB with the Corsair chip mentioned in one of the previous reviews in less than 10 minutes. It's a great system with some bloatware that is easy to get rid of. The battery life is fantastic, I get 3.5 to 4 hours on average when doing simple tasks and no one runs any game on a laptop without being plugged in anyway, so that's not an issue. The speakers are surprisingly really good. I am very very impressed with the speakers. For less than $800 (with frequent Amazon sales) this laptop is seriously a steal. I've been a Dell customer for over 10 years, but since my last laptop, I decided to try something new and also much cheaper. I was thinking of getting an Alienware for "max performance", but decided it was way too expensive and happily ended up with this computer. It's got all the right ports, although lacking USB 3.0, but that's not a big deal for me. And as for the warranty that, I believe, some people have mentioned, with such a cheap computer, just bring it to your local computer shop to get it fixed or just get a new one. You'll be spending the same amount of money on two of these as you would with one 'branded' laptop (Dell, Vaio, etc.).Pros:-Great Value-Fast-Lots of storage-Easy to upgrade to 8GB RAM-Runs quite cool even when running games-The 'Lenovo Enhanced Experience' is nice and makes booting up really fast as well as other functions very convenient like regulating battery performance and battery life (there's a function that allows you to prolong the life of your battery by charging your battery only to 50% when it's plugged in).Cons:-Low resolution/entry level graphics card-Keyboard takes a little getting used to since it includes a number pad (I find myself pressing 'num lock' more than the backspace)-The Touch Pad doesn't work with the keyboard at the same time, which is annoying when you're playing a game that requires you to move using 'WASD' and use the mouse to click on things (you can plug in your mouse, but sometimes it's inconvenient to use a mouse like when you're on a couch or something)If you're looking for a great deal on a great performing laptop, this is the one for you!P.S. I'm not sure if the Amazon Prime Student deal is still going on, but I got this laptop with that promotion and got a free Xbox 360 with it!

4Great Laptop
By Randy
I got this Lenovo because I essentially needed a jack-of-all-trades laptop that could replace a desktop while I'm stuck living in a small apartment. To that end, it has served me really well.Keyboard 9/10--------Keyboard is really nice. I have heard all Lenovo keyboards are great; this is my first Lenovo, and I do agree. Very comfortable, and it comes with a 10-key pad on the side which I like to use. I would give the keyboard 8/10, because the volume buttons are soft touch-sensitive buttons, which are a little too sensitive and clumsy for my liking.Trackpad 7/10--------The trackpad on this laptop is OK. It's a little sticky, and under Windows 7, I have had problems using the two-finger scrolling and zoom features. I will say that this is definitely a software/driver issue, because booted into Ubuntu the two finger scrolling is buttery smooth. So hopefully Synaptics can fix this. Other than that, the trackpad is a decent size, and the two physical buttons underneath it feel solid, and do not make any annoying loud clicking sounds.Audio 9/10-----The speakers are apparently designed by JBL or something. I don't know too much about that, but one of the main reasons I picked this laptop was for its speakers. I use this as a desktop, so I watch movies on it, YouTube, music, etc. and the speakers are really nice for a laptop in my experience. Pretty loud, and very clear.Display 8/10-------1366x768 is really common in laptops now, so I guess I can't really fault Lenovo for using it. Viewing angles are not amazing, and the resolution is OK. The brightness can go pretty high, and it looks great at 720p. More resolution would have been nice, but then the price would reflect that and make this a whole other beast.Connectivity 9/10------------This thing has it all except USB 3.0. I love the HDMI jack, because I just swap the cord off of the back of the PS3 and stick it in this thing and I can watch movies or shows that I have on the HDD. There's also 4 USB inputs, two on the right side and two on the left, one of which is the eSata/USB combo. This is awesome. I have my mouse plugged into one, while both my phone and my girlfriend's charge, and there's still an extra port for sticking in a thumb drive or whatever. There's also a multi-card reader, which has been really convenient for getting photos off of my camera for editing, storage, sharing, etc. Separate headphone and microphone jacks as well. Also included is Bluetooth. So you can hook up a wireless mouse or transfer files from your cellphone or whatever you want to do.Hardware 9/10--------The 2630 QM 2.0Ghz i7 is really nice. It's really quick, and the extra horsepower helps with the integrated HD3000 graphics. I can play Starcraft 2 on low settings perfectly (that's all I like anyways, but if you need graphics get something with a discreet card) and Diablo 3 with AA on, and all settings high with shadows off. I have been quite impressed with the HD3000 graphics for my light gaming purposes; if you're a hardcore gamer who likes eye candy I won't sugar coat it and confuse you though. I also upgraded to 8GB of ram, which I do recommend if you're playing games or using heavy software, but the 4GB included is more than enough for general use. The HD is a large 750GB, although it is only 5400rpm so this is where it seems to bottleneck outside of the ram and CPU. I might stick a SSD in there, or put one in the optical drive bay when I'm ready to part with that (it has a dvd/cd R/W pop-out drive).Final Impressions 9/10-----------------The gunmetal grey aluminum finish is pretty attractive. It's not a unibody design or anything, so you can't really drop it or call it super-durable or anything. Just makes it look nice. Opening up the laptop from sleep mode is anywhere from instant to 2-second response time, so that's nice. The fan is nearly always silent, unless the CPU is doing something graphics-intensive, but the palm rests never get hot. All-in-all I have found this laptop to be a joy to use, and I would highly recommend it.

5One laptop to rule them all
By PottyWilson
I received this laptop as my graduation present almost a year ago. To help anyone looking for that right laptop, I will share my own experiences with this HP dv6-6047cl.My parents and I thought a laptop would be a good graduation gift, something I can carry through college, work, and lifes many adventures. While myself being a big gamer, I looked for best gaming laptop I could find in the price range. I spent a month on research, looking at specs, features and benchmark results for popular games. I really couldn't decide, until my dad showed my this laptop being sold at Sam's Club. I looked at all the specs online and thought it would be an awesome deal. In the end this is what I ended up receiving.Enough with the story! On to the features! First off, this laptop looks sexy. Very clean, very light, but a finger-print magnet. The keyboard feels very comfortable to type with, and comes with a full-sized num-pad. The up and down arrow keys are very small, but still totally functional (I got 250,000 points in Starcraft 2 - Lost Viking mini-game with them lol). The track-pad is your average laptop mouse, nothing special. It comes with a finger-print scanner, but I have never used it. The display is small (1366x768) but very sharp. I have yet to find a good way to clean it however :( The HP Beats Audio is an awesome feature, you can notice a huge difference in audio quality when Beats is on. The battery life is pretty average for a laptop. After a year, it can still run about 3-4 hours surfing the internet with power saver settings. If your running anything intense, you will need to plug-in (as the case with every laptop). This laptop usually idles 20-40 celsius. When playing games, the highest I have seen it go is 80 celsius. On to the games! The laptop comes with amd radeon hd6770M (for gaming) and an integrated graphics GPU (not for gaming). Here is a list of some games I have run: Skyrim on high runs around 30 fps outdoors (lower in the forest areas) and 40-50 fps indoors. Starcraft 2 on ultra runs above 30 fps except during the most intense high food battles. Borderlands runs seamless at the highest settings. Crysis on high/ultra (with shaders medium) runs close to 30 fps. Overall this laptop handled everything I have thrown at it! I doubt there is a game today that this can't handle to at least medium settings. The only problem I have had with this laptop happens during long game-sessions. When the graphics card gets very hot, and I try to minimize to the desktop, the screen goes black for a second and comes back (though 20% of the time I have to hard restart) and I get this message "The display driver has stopped working and has recovered" I have yet to find a solution for this, but I have found a work-around. Most of the games today support windowed mode, and I have yet to have this problem when a game is in windowed mode.To sum everything up, this laptop perfect for the price. Great keyboard, good battery life, excellent gaming ability, and a very compact design. I would highly recommend this laptop to anyone looking for a laptop in the mid price range. You can't beat it!

2HP lied and gave a shit to me....
By Tom
I purchased this item last week as I saw this laptop provides with a separate graphic card. But after I received it, I found that the graphic card is Intel Graphic 3000, not the one stated in the product (ATI HD 5770M). What should I do?

5Best Performance for the money
By Maduro
I Have Done quite some Research before buying this laptop and i must say that i am super happy with it for 650 bucks your not going to find a laptop with Gpu Power like this one. It runs Most game at ultra high and high. High end games like skyrim and bf3 it runs at medium perfectly fine. I'm Playing dishonored and it runs it al maxed setting at 30 to 60fps. The Beats is also a plus boost headphones sooo much. This laptop is already Great but if you want to make it future proof and boost it from fast to super fast? Just get A solid state drive and BOOM you got a Dynamite LAPTOP.Service: the laptop Came Perfect took a bit longer to get here but no dents of anything. Came packaged very good.Cons: None i can find.Overall: You Really are getting a Bang out of Your buck with this deal.

5Nice budget computer
By Seamus O'Boogie
The keyboard on this notebook is the highlight, it has great feedback, separated chicklet keys, and has standard key placement (unlike some funky keyboards I have tried recently). That is to say, delete in top right, escape top left and CTL bottom left, with arrow keys on the bottom right. Also, it doesn't have the rarely needed numeric keypad, which is found on a lot of keyboards these days but requires your hand placement left of expected to type, which is what you do most of the time anyhow, right? I like this keyboard better than those on the legendary Thinkpads of old.The screen is nice and sharp, I don't dislike the shiny screen as much as I had originally expected. Colors are great.Hard drive has enough space for me, and the recovery procedure works well. I made the recovery CDs as well, but I normally just clone the HD onto and old drive to have a backup that way.The computer has nice selection of features, minus the HDMI that has been mentioned already.I am very fond of the trackpad .. I grew up with IBMs and prefer the pointer stick, but this is the nicest trackpad I've ever used. Buttons are in the right places and are the right size.Speakers are OK, better than many budget laptops. The recessed keyboard is a nice looking design and the textured case is also quite cool looking. This certainly doesn't look like a budget laptop. There are a few negatives however. First, Sony loads a ridiculous amount of "junkware" on this computer. Trial versions of this and that, utilities of dubious importance, and a bunch of other junk I see no need for. I took me about 45 minutes to get rid most of the egregious stuff. The processor is 64 bit, and the Win7 version is 64 bit, which makes sense given the 4GB ram installed. The processor does not have the Intel virtualization technology, but frankly having used Sun's free and excellent Virtual Box software for some time, which doesn't need this virtualization technology, I see no need for Intel's hardware virtualization. Also, the computer ain't a light weight although it isn't a complete pig either.I also installed XP Professional for giggles, the drivers are all available on Sony's site. Man, it really flies with 32 bit XP.All in all a very nice budget laptop.

By Jairo N. Filho
Beware that this Sony Vaio DOES NOT HAVE the HDMI port as it's advertised on the pictures.it's not a big issue for me for I woudn't use it anyway. However if you want this feature it might be a problem.

2After 2 years needs replacing.
By Wild 4 u
After 2 years it freezes for no reason esp. when on Youtube/Internet Explorer. Battery life is non-existant. Bought a replacement battery but it lasted 4 months. Time for a new laptop but doubt it will be a Sony. Too many bad reviews.

1Toshiba Satellite A665 3DV8
By TOD
This is my second Toshiba laptop. With my previous Toshiba Satellite I had only positive experience.I have also 2 HP laptops(with AMD CPUs) and one MAC PRO Pro machine.Due bad experience with both HP laptops my decision was to buy PC laptop Toshiba.I got really bad experience from January this year when I got my new A665 Satellite 3DV8.I paid money for nothing. The issues starts at the very beginning of operation.NVIDIA GPU control panel window disappeared during my first session of use.Later when I had internet access after automatic software updates-BIOS,WINDOWS 7and e.t.c. laptop starts doing strange things.During switching from normal operation to screen saver, screen saver must be active however screen became totally black and it was impossible to wake up laptop. This was followed by restarting WINDOWS 7 with error messages than again same story.During updates of NVIDIA drivers was happen also troubles.Existing drivers were removed automatically during installation of newest driver's version however followed by error messages during installation. With other words instead of installing via automatic updates NVIDIA GE FORCE GTS 350M GPU drivers old existing driver disappeared.i am guessing that all my issues came from WINDOWS 7 updates BIOS updates and and NVIDIA updates. The biggest issue for me know is that I am out of the States 5000 miles and I have to search local Toshiba authorized re-seller for assistance.I will not recommend same Toshiba laptop for purchase.Still I have MAC PRO with me working without any problems and performing very good.Simply Toshiba lost me as a customer for all their products for close future.I don't know how they can reimburse me due bad experinse

1Not a laptop to buy.
By david r
I bought this laptop three days ago, I thought it was going to be great as soon as i opened it. Instead on that first day it randomly turned off in the first 10 minutes of use, even though it was plugged in. I did not have any problems other than this on the first day. The second day I had problems with the laptop freezing for over five minutes, and had to reboot two out of the three times. On the third day it not only froze many times, but it also would not boot correctly, it just sat at the Toshiba page or a blank page for over five minutes before i decided to restart it and try again. It went in this order: power on, does not work, turn off, power on, does not work, turn off, power on, does not work, power on, finally boots correctly. This happened three times on the third day. Save your money and do not buy this laptop it is not going to be a reliable one.

The lap top performs as indicated, with just a few upgrade to fully enjoy the 3d.Overall, runs smooth and cool. (fast)Window 7 is great, its been just a few weeks and I am full adjusted.I am not a hard core gamer, but I would think a lager screen would be a plus. The option to go external on a 3d ready t.v. , makes up for that (for me).Mouse pad work wonderfully, very sensitive to the touch, with the option to turn off while typing.Great sound and touch volume control, this is much better than expected. Truly entertaining!None of the negative issues which I've read here and other reviews.

5Very Good for the price !
By Real Named Person
Beats an overpriced macbook easily i believe, never owned a mac but this HP packs a punch !.................................................................................................Positives:++++.................................................................................................+Looks super stylish like a macbook+Has both Intel HD graphics for low power use and ATI Radeon 5650 for powered on use. Easily switchable with a mouse click. 5650 has 40% performance compared to the most powerful graphics available for laptops as per notebookcheck.net website. Good enough considering a 60% perfomance GPU like GTX 460m integrated into a laptop will cost at least $1250+Windows Experience index WithouT considering low speed hard drive and 4GB RAM is 6.6 out of max 7.9. With considering hard drive/RAM it drops to 5.9. Though 4GB RAM is pretty much enough unless you plan to play intensive games such as Crysis for which i am getting 8GB 1333 Mhz corsair.+ The installed RAM seems to be 4GB PC3-10600 which is a DDR3 1333Mhz. Should be at least good or even better than a 1066 Mhz RAM in other laptops of similar price+ Intel HD graphics looks surprisingly good when compared to another laptop i tried with same graphics. Good enough for online browsing, videos and desktop use.+Altec Lansing Dolby 7.1 speakers.+Plays crysis super smooth at medium-high settings. Can play at high settings at around 30fps+Esata/usb, Touchpad tap locking mechanism.................................................................................................Negatives:- - - -.................................................................................................-A slightly lower ranked i3 370M intel chip. Would have been great if it were i5 4xxm with Turbo-boost. Nevertheless still good performance.-HP clutterware, get your own copy of windows and clean out all that. (Students get it free from msdn alliance with your university).-Could get really hot easily if using the ATI 5650 GPU. Make sure you use it only when at home and over a notebook cooler like Zalman2000 or Nzxt cryo. Otherwise stick to Intel HD GPU to prolong laptop life.NZXT ACC-NT-CRYO-LX 120MM Aluminum Notebook Cooler Adjustable Fans (Silver)-Monitoring with RealTemp Software tells me the CPU cores could get to about 70C degree celsius and ATI GPU to 64C (throughout averaging 64C and 59C respectively) under 5 hours+ prolonged gaming load (crysis) even when cooled by a high speed NZXT cryo Aluminium cooler with external DC adapter plugged in. The left side of the laptop is where all the CPU/ATIGPU/IntelGPU is located and thats where all the heat is generated. The left side of the touch pad and top of the laptop also gets hot and i recommend using something like "thermapak heatshift" over the laptop keyboard (if you are not using it) which should be help it cool down further for a good 4 hours+ of worry free gaming . Though make sure your ambient temperature of not over normal comfortable room temperature for good performance in cooling down your laptop.ThermaPAK HeatShift Laptop Cooler 15 inch Black-Havent found a way to make the laptop choose intel GPU by default at starup. The default choice is ATI GPU.- Got blue screen of death and restarted a few times by itself when trying to install a few antivirus trials with Zone Alarm firewall and Windows Defender enabled. Finally figured out Zone alarm works with Bit Defender 2011 Antivirus with everything except Antivirus capability turned off.-No finger print reader, USB 3.0, PCIe Express Card Slot.--------------

5Nothing short of a steal
By Castro
Nothing short of a steal for the price. I was upgrading from a dell inspiron 1440. Running on an out dated integrated graphics, and an outdated cpu. I wanted something with power in the graphics and processing department. Expecting to shell out some extra cash for something with a little more kick. That's when I came across the 3143, which I am actually typing this review on right now. I am nothing short of extremely happy with it. The price dropped since I got it, down $50, yet I still believe I got it at a steal. Anything else even close to the specs of this laptop is going to run you at least $800. That $400 savings that amazon put up there is no joke. I've been playing games like Crysis 2, Civilization V, H.A.W.X and Sims 3, like a charm. And they all run smooth and look beautiful, the 3143 can run them at great resolutions, and high texture details. Also a nice 15.6" screen makes it great for multi-tasking and programming. This laptop offers so much for so little and in no way sacrifices graphics, processing or portability for cost or any other reason. Don't let the i3 processor fool you. It one of the better i3 processors that can beat i5 processors in benchmark tests. Go to notebookcheck.net and search for the "i3-370M" to see for yourself.Only con is that the gpu can get quite hot when playing games, however that is expected as is the decrease of battery life when playing high end games, about 1-2hours. But like I said that is expected. However, using the integrated gpu with normal usage will land you great battery life.Overall I am extremely happy with this purchase. There is not one bad thing I could say about it without nitpicking.

4Great for the price, but it has a crappy, crappy, crappy, fan
By Him
I was skeptical at first before I bought this computer. There were only 2 reviews so I decided to make this third one to assure people this is a good computer. Overall I am very happy with this purchase. I got this computer a few months ago and back then I would have easily given this computer 5 stars. I got it for $600 and it runs way better, faster, and smoother than any of my friends laptops. Most of them have Macbook Pros, and this was only half the price. So far out of all 96 games I have on steam, my computer hasn't had trouble running 1 of them. The majority can run on max settings with no noticeable lag. Even games that require a lot (like metro 2033) can run on this computer. Sure, not on max settings, but then again it's only a laptop and it's only $600. The only real problem I had with this computer was overheating. It would reach temperatures as high as 95 degrees! You couldn't even hold your hand out in front of the vent for over 10 seconds! There were a lot of steps I went through to overcome this problem. I got a cooling pad. It didn't work. I messed with a bunch of processing settings. It didn't work. Finally I got a can of condensed air. I sprayed it in the vent and a cloud of dust came out. My temperature was reduced by about 20-30 degrees. I suggest you just do that (also maybe get a cooling pad, if it's still hot) The overheating would be a bigger issue, but the performance I get out of this computer makes it worth it. I suggest buying this computer. Just get the condensed air and clean off the fan every now and then and you should be good to go. I also saw the price raised to $800, I still say it's worth it.

4Great other than sub-par LCD
By D. Wong
Pros:Good specs for a mid-grade notebookComforable & quiet keyboardUpward facing speakersHDMI outputAesthetically pleasingCons:LCD is dark even at full brightnessFan comes on intermitently every 4-5 minsHeavy (6.9 pounds)Low battery life (~2.5hrs on light usage)Review:I bought this at Bestbuy the weekend of Black Friday ($649.99). It's rare to find a mid-grade notebook that has dedicated graphics, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, GigE & 802.11n connectivity, and a 1600x900 display. Even at MSRP, the specs are pretty good for the price. The keyboard is very quiet and comfortable to type on. The touchpad is a decent size but the 2 buttons are hard to click (I generally use the touchpad tap gestures). The max volume on the speakers are pretty good and they actually face up. Many lower end notebooks have them facing down going away from your ear and also gets muffled if you put it on your bed. The HDMI is great for connecting to an external display. Unfortunately, the integrated glossy 1600x900 xbrite-eco display looks pretty bad. Even on max brightness, the LCD is not very bright. The viewing angles are bad. Normal sized text is hard to read unless you're looking at the LCD straight-on. This is my first experience with extended usage on a Sony xbrite-eco display and I'm a bit disappointed. I haven't used a TN-panel in 3 years, so I am a bit spoiled on monitors. I'm also very conscious of computer noise. The fan comes on and off frequently and cannot be controlled by 3rd party software (This is true of all Sony Vaios). I checked this out using HWMonitor. The PC idles around 50C. When the CPU gets stressed to 59C, the fan starts spinning and cooling the CPU down until 51C, then stops. This is a regular pattern that occurs maybe every 4-5 mins, but on the other hand, many notebook cooling systems are the same way. The good thing is this never becomes one of those lap-scorchers. This thing is quite heavy at 6.9 pounds. The big LCD and dedicated graphics add weight and also trim down the 4400mAH battery's life. I get 2.5hrs on light usage. I think this could have used a bigger battery, but I think Sony didn't want to have to market a 7 pound+ computer. There is still pre-installed garbage software that you'll want to uninstall but it's not as bad as it used to be. This is currently my main computer and I usually have it "docked" to my external S-IPS Dell monitor, external keyboard/mouse, and constantly charged, so I don't feel the effect of the dull LCD, weight, or battery life.Overall, I still really like the computer. To get similar specs elsewhere, you'd have to spend $1000+. It looks very sleek and has the Sony "Vaio" branding if you're into that. With a 16"+ laptop, weight and lowered battery life are a given. The hardware is very good other than the LCD and the cooling sytem is a little bit below average in my opinion. I'd say if this looks good on paper to you, head down to a brick and mortar to check out the LCD brightness, viewing angles, and weight before making your decision.

1Ok Laptop - TERRIBLE Customer Service
By D. Noyd
I have never dealt with such poor service in my entire life as I dealt with for my Sony Vaio VGN-FW. Less than six months after purchasing the computer the network connection stopped working. After two hours of dealing with Sony tech support they finally sent a technician, who replaced the network card but still didn't solve the problem. The next step was to send the computer to the Sony fix-it center where it was to be "assessed" and "processed". Then, I got the news - according to Sony the switch to the wireless card was broken in the off position, it was somehow "my fault", and it would cost $700 to replace. This was a complete and utterly false and shameful assertion on their point, especially since the only time that the wireless switch had ever been used was when the Sony tech had toggled it in her diagnostics. After two days and considerable agony dealing with the customer service center I was finally able to get Sony to agree to replace the network card with no cost. All told the experience cost me two full days of my life and a month without my computer - all to get what I should've had all along . . . a working laptop. I bought a Sony due to their reputation as a top-notch brand, but I will never make that mistake again - they were deceitful in how they approached the issue and they made every attempt to screw me along the way.

5solid built, great value for the money
By F. Isa
I recently bought the FW 501F and it is a great laptop for home and study projects, solidly built and with superb performance and capacity for gaming and browsing. If you do not mind the lack of BD player, this laptop is a winner, but amazon's prices for the same product are way above than Best Buy ($200+ difference). I already own a sony laptop FW 270J and they are excellent products. I would recommend this sony to anyone, over almost any other brands.

5Powerful Laptop. Tech has come a loooong way... :D
By Anthony Gomulka
I bought this laptop directly from HP with slightly different specs. I only got 1gb of ram for the GPU, the steel case, and a 1080p screen. My 750gig hard drive is a 7200rpm. I wonder what the one in this laptop is because they don't feel like specifying... :PBloatware wasn't that bad, the speed of this laptop made going through that process reaaally fast. I'm a DJ/Producer and this laptop handles Traktor and Ableton without a hitch. Its just amazing. :DI work at a computer repair shop and I find it ironic that I bought a dv6 even after I've seen 30+ dv6000s from 3-4 years ago with bad motherboards. :D I just hope that trend doesn't carry over with complete redesigns... :DThis is a relevantly new laptop, so no one can speak on longevity, but with tech progressing like it is, life expectancy should only go up. :) If your looking for a high end PC for a little over a grand, this is a great place to start.Amazon might decide to edit my comment for me saying this, but consider buy directly from HP, you WILL wait at least 2 weeks for your laptop to arrive, but for me its worth it. :D You get exactly what you want. For me I really wanted the 1080p screen. :P

5Greate purchase
By Eduk79
This computer has an excellent overall performance. I owned a HP Pavilion DV5 before this one with a Core 2 Duo and there is a big difference between them. The 15,6" display is great too and the aluminium case is well finished (although a little bit cold in winter and finger prints get easily marked on it). Memory size and HD are also significant pros in this laptop. I have only two minor issues: the battery charger is quite large, even bigger than the one my previous HP had, thus it's not very nice for travelling. The second issue is a simple but quite annoying thing: the num lock key has no "on" indicator (very strange considering the caps lock key does).Above that, the laptop provides an excellent user experience, with a much better boot up speed and delivering a noticeable processing power.I must point out that this laptop didn't came with Bluray player. There must be some mistake in the description.

5Great Laptop for the Poweruser
By Kevin
I just got this laptop recently and I love it. Definitely a slick deal if you can ever get it for under 1000 dollars and the same specs. I'll make a list to keep it short and sweet.Pros:-Switchable Graphics are awesome. Just use Catalyst Control Center to switch between high powered gaming graphics and battery saving integrated graphics.-Super powerful! the i7 quad core is fast. Really fast. Especially for me, who upgraded from a single cored desktop.-Design is great. Everything looks really sleek. Aluminum finish is nice, but can get fingerprinty.-Keyboard is awesome. I can type really fast on it. Chicklet, comparable to Macbook's. The numpad/tenkey can be annoying for some, but I like being able to type:'-Fingerprint reader is actually pretty useful. I thought it was just a gimmick, but it works really well.-Amazing battery life if you can get the 9cell battery. I've gotten around 5-7 hours with light internet browsing. Maybe 3 hours with heavy [sc2] gaming.-Runs games well.-2 USB 3.0 slots.-A lot of other hp goodies, like coolsense and that one harddrive protection thing.Cons:-Keyboard is not backlit-touchpad's multitouch gestures (2 finger scroll and pinch to zoom) are kind of faulty-Screen resolution could be better, but for the gamers, remember that lower resolution will help games run better.Would definitely buy for any:GamerCollege StudentWindows enthusiastAnyone in need of a powerful windows computer.
