4Thin, light, and powerful.
By Pakidermo
I purchased this laptop after reading thousands of reviews. I wanted something light (<2kg) with long battery life (>7h), small and powerful (>intel i5). I was considering other options like Acer S3, asus UX31, sony vaio SB/SA series and Toshiba Portege R835.S3- I am not a fan of Acer and it came with the SDD which I found too small.UX31- It is really good and nice but it has less connectors and was too expensive. Not sure if it can be upgraded.Vaio- I was about to buy it, but it was thicker and heavier and the battery was not so good. It had the option of the docking station though.R835- I read it had issues with fan noises and with excessive heating. But it was lighter than U36sd and had a cd-rom drive. Finally I decided to go for the Asus u36SD + an hybrid SSD/HDD Seagate Momentus XTSeagate Momentus XT 500 GB 2.5 Inch Solid State Hybrid Drive ST95005620AS .This machine as it stands is very good. It is light, long battery (8:30h in saving bat mode, but if you use video media it is near 4:30h), and powerful. The only downside is the HDD that comes originally, it is a 5600rpm and for my taste it is too slow. I wanted a faster HDD, but SDD are too small in storage size or too expensive. So, I went for an hybrid SSD/HDD (Seagate momentus).Changing the HDD is not difficult if you are a bit skilled and there are many tutorial videos on youtube that show you how to do it. You have to open the computer because the hatch under the laptop only gives access to the RAM memory. But, as I say, it is not difficult and the change is really worth. The speed increase is very noticeable from the very first moment. The laptop is very quite, no issues with fan noises or excess of heat. The keyboard is chiclet style and very comfortable. Also the mouse is multitouch and works very good.Clearly the down side of the computer is the screen. It is not the best screen in the world. It is shiny LCD but it is not the worse either (toshiba is worse). If you compare it with a MacBook Air... it is just a quite bad screen. If you are gonna use the laptop mainly outdoors, just buy a Mac Air or UX31 which also has a really good screen. However, for normal use indoors and seldom times outdoors it is ok. Actually, I don't think that working with a 13" screen is nice, so I just plug it to a desktop screen and it works great for me. But, as I said, if I need to use inside it is good and and enough. In addition, ASUS provides an utility that makes colors more vivid and a better contrast.Just a note, I use it inside and have the brightness at 50-60%.Note: it has a 2 year worldwide warranty not 1 year as it is stated in the specifications. It comes with 4gb of RAM in one slot. I bought and extra 4gb last week, and the difference in normal use performance almost did not change. However, to handle heavy tasks it is now better. But a regular user does not need the 8gb. 4 is enough. All in all, I am delighted with the laptop and I do recommend it specially if you combine with a 7200rpm HDD or an hybrid one, even an SSD.I give it 4 stars because I consider that 5 stars is perfection and this item is still improvable, i.e. screen and HDD. For all the rest it is perfect.

5Excellent ultra-light with NVidia graphics
By Gabriel
I've been using this U36SD-DH51 for the last couple weeks, and I love it. It is thin, light and fast. The battery life for regular stuff like web browsing, even with the screen brightness up, is about 7 hours (though I fully expect that to wane as the battery ages). The case and the keyboard feel solid, and typing is comfortable.I replaced the stock hard drive with an Intel 520 Series 120 GB Solid-State Drive in about 20 minutes without any problems (search the web for "how to open an ASUS u36"). The laptop went from moderately fast to ludicrous speed.I bought this laptop for the discrete graphics, so that I could test and debug CUDA software from the coffee shop instead of my office. The GT520M won't be winning any speed contests, but if you need NVidia graphics in a lightweight laptop, it's a great buy. If you don't need discrete graphics but want the speed of an SSD, then look for "ultrabooks" or their ilk -- there are quite a few out now.

5I love this powerful little laptop
By I. HO
I got the equivalent U36SD-A1. I love the construction and speed of this computer. It is a little heavier than an Ultrabook or Macbook-air. But, you get the benefit of a fully powered i5 even running at 3.0GHz well ventilated. I think this is the way to go. The ultrabook doesn't make a lot of sense to me when it is only running at 1.7GHz. I can really run anything I want on this little dynamite with great response. It is even better after I put in a Sandy Force SSD.

5Love My New Sony Vaio!
By Miss Foxy
I was kind of nervous about buying a laptop online, but I researched the model I was considering and went into Best Buy to check it out in person. I LOVE this laptop. It's very fast & smooth and fortunately I haven't had any issues with the keyboard as the previous reviewer mentioned. I love how the keys light up and you can set the backlighting to always on, only when plugged in or always off. It comes preloaded with some great Sony software that you can choose to keep or remove. I removed some of it, but kept most of the Imagination Suite, which includes Sony ACID & Vegas. It has very nice features, light weight and has really good battery life. After charging it in the morning I can go almost all day without needing to recharge it. This is doing regular tasks on it like browsing the internet, checking email, watching videos on YouTube, etc. Overall I am loving this laptop and very happy with my purchase. If you have any questions leave it in the comments below and I will try to answer your question. I hgihly recommend this laptop! If you were on the fence about getting it, I say GET IT!

4Fast and roomy
By Dan
With almost 750GB of space, there is plenty of room to store an entire music collection, photos, videos and documents.Unlike some of the other reviewers, I found this laptop to be light, responsive to commands, fast, with a good display. Typing and launching applications is quick. Even while using processor-heavy applications like Handbrake doesn't seem to slow other functions down much. I had to play with the settings of the trackpad to make it work the way I am used to, but now it is responsive and easy to use.The drawback is the keyboard, which feels a bit cheap and flimsy. I don't like its "bounce" and feedback, though after a week's use, I am getting used to it. The lighting of the keyboard also doesn't actually help in darker environments.Sony includes some useful applications, like Vegas Movie Studio, but like many PCs, much of what is included can be removed.Still, for the size, weight and specs I feel like I've made a good purchase.

4Solid product with a few quirks that prevent an excellent rating
By S. Melvin
First - this laptop was purchased for my spouse - not me, so I will skip the review on the color. She likes it and that's that. ;)Now, on to business. Sony VAIO systems have had their ups and downs over the years. However, I can mostly say that Sony has come back with its new line of laptops. They seem to be built better and don't contain as much bloatware as they used it. Why computer companies still insist of packing every piece of horrible software onto their system is beyond me (yes, it could lower the price a bit, but then customers are bombarded with horrible software and blame you for installing it on their system). Anyway, I digress...What Sony did install on this system that is fairly helpful for the average user, is a "smart" suite that basically checks the system for you and ensures you are running the latest and greatest software and have the right patches to keep your system safe. This suite isn't perfect, however it will at least keep the system cleaner than most suites I've seen from other companies that simply just try to sell you more of their products right from your own desktop (really, commercials on my computer...no, thanks). Additionally, this suite is a teaching tool. Sony takes the time to answer the hottest questions currently floating around the web pertaining to laptops. Need to learn how to hook up that new printer you just purchased to your network or laptop for use? Sony will tell you. Need to figure out if upgrading your laptop to Windows 8 is possible? Sony has you covered (it is btw). Want to know how to fix that annoying little issue that seems to be plaguing you (and likely other Sony customers)? Yep, you guessed it...Sony will post the answer in plain English right on your desktop software suite and even provide you steps to fix it. Not bad Sony, not bad at all.Now on to the actual system. Let me first give the biggest con of them all. The trackpad is absolutely a nightmare on this system. Seriously - I am not able to figure out if I'm clicking or scrolling or simply shaking my mouse pointer back and forth. They decided to incorporate the mouse buttons right into the trackpad, so you don't have separate things to touch - but for these burly hands, I am unable to master it. My spouse...no complaints (I think she secretly hates it, but doesn't want to agree with me...*sigh*). If you like those "one surface does it all" type track/touchpads, then this will not bother you and you can ignore the previous portion of this review. The rest of the system is fairly nicely laid out. Keyboard is the newer "chiclet keyboard", which basically means each key is independent on the board instead of a single large mesh for food and other junk to fall into. I like that idea and believe it should become standard on all laptops. The keys, themselves, light up when used, so great for surfing in a dark room during movie night. Most of the function keys are nicely labeled, so you can figure out what two keys you have to hit to replicate the same feature that a normal 108+ keyboard has. Want to page up/down? FN+up-arrow/down-arrow takes care of you (I dislike not having dedicated page-up/down keys, but understand the use due to limited space). The ports (USB, HDMI, card reader, etc) are all nicely placed and easily accessible without looking cheap. There is a powered USB port on one side of the laptop to allow you to charge your USB device, even if you lose the laptop for storage (excellent feature and should be standard, as it is silly that I have to keep a laptop open to charge an iDevice while on the road). The built-in camera and mic work great (Skype tested and approved by family/friends). The powercord and brick are standard and seem solid enough to not cause concern that they'll break within a year (so many manufacturers seem to send crappy powerbricks, so you have to buy their replacement one for $80+ after the original breaks). So, overall, this system is fairly well built, has a good amount of useful software pre-installed (yes a little bloatware, but nothing worth complaining about), and seems fairly sturdy. If this changes over the next year of use - we'll be sure to update this review. As an HP laptop user for work (I know, stop laughing, it is what we have), I can honestly say I am impressed with how Sony turned around and revitalized their consumer line of laptops (their enterprise line was always well-respected and trusted).

5I love my DV6 laptop!
By JAntoine
This laptop is an amazing value for the price. I purchased mine from HP's online store with the following specs:15" standard screenBlu-Ray player upgradeAMD A6 ProcessorUSB 3.0 included (10x faster than USB 2.0)HDMI port (for connecting to the modern plasma screens, etc)The case is very attractive and has a sleek, grey shape. The cutting-edge AMD "Fusion" processor produces amazingly-smooth graphics (DVDs, Youtube HD videos, Netflix, Hulu, etc). I run complex financial risk simulations on my DV6 laptop, and they complete within seconds. My previous laptop, an Intel Duo Core from Geteway, took minutes to finish the simulations, but this new HP laptop finishes 5x faster!Naturally, internet browsing is awesome, as web pages seem to open within the blink of an eye. I never realized that an upgraded laptop could make my life so much easier. The laptop is incredibly fast and powerful, yet it produces virtually no heat.I also watch BluRay movies from a projector connected to my DV6. Again, I have to compliment the amazing graphics capabilities on this laptop; completely smooth video!!Hulu and Netflix caused my my old Intel Duo-Core laptop to stall and choke, but this new AMD-powered laptop runs completely smoothly on this laptop! If you have broadband internet, you will never see any flickering or missed frames. At this price, the DV6 is the best value you will find. It runs better and has a better build quality than similar laptops that are usually priced in the $800-$900 range.I think HP and AMD did a fantastic job with this laptop. I am a very happy customer.

1Consumer beware!!
By kenpao
HP sent me a defective screen on my new HP laptop. I requested them to replace the computer and they asked me to take a quick-ship model at a higher price. In addition, I have to pay for it first at a higher price with lower specs!! I asked for the manager and they rejected me saying they are busy.I have bought 4 HP Pavilions over the last 10 years and this is how they repay me. If there are no problems, I am sure HP is fine. The real problem is if there is something wrong and you are stuck with their customer support. After 10 years, I am going with another brand. I have also spent 80 minutes on the phone with no avail.I have put a similar comment on their HP website. Do you know they exclude the 1-star and 2-star comments from the consumers?!?! Therefore, I thought it is only fair for the consumers to know. If there is something wrong and you have to deal with their customer support, you will literally get the short-end of the stick. Therefore, you should think twice before purchasing from HP.I have wasted two days of my life dealing them and now I am investing a full-day going through all the HP e-commerce sites to let the consumers know. Good luck with your purchase with HP.....

5Great Computer
By vito murillo
I just received this computer today and to tell you the truth it is an awesome computer. The display screen is flawless and just gorgious with its brightness. The updates took less then 1hour so it was pretty fast. The A6 quad core works awesome, this computer can handle anything you throw at it with awesome resolution. The speakers are so loud and sound great. The keys are nice and easy to hit, they're not like some computers which has them hard so you have to press pretty hard to use them but rather this once has it just right. This 500dollar computer out performs a 800dollar computer any day of the week. If your thinking about purchasing a computer for school, entertainment or just to play some hard core gaming but at a reasonable price, not like those $2000 alienware computer, then this is the computer to buy. You cannot go wrong with this computer. Do Not be afraid of the 1.4ghz processor, its a A6 quad core!!! Thats four cores that work consistenly to keep up with your demand, and the weight of the work is distubited evenly to the four cores so it hardly heats up. Its literaly impossible to hear the fan. Im trying my best to listen to it and it makes almost nooo noise whatsoever. In Summary, If you want to purchase a great computer that can handle anything you throw at it then look no more and purchase this computer immediately.

5Great gaming laptop, but update GPU drivers
By J. Manarang
PROS:On the initial setup, the laptop played a pretty cool Asus video that showed many "on" buttons forming various images. It made the purchase seem even more personal. Nice touch Asus. Here's a link: paste "ASUS Laptop Startup Video (2009 ASUS)(HD)" on Youtube. Watch in HD fullscreen to get the same feel. Yes simple things amaze me x_o.My first impression of this laptop is its big size. I'm used to running a netbook, in terms of mobile pc. Examining the layout closely, the screen isn't the perpetrator here- the speaker adds roughly 2 inches to the width. Although this is easily forgiven once I heard the sound quality, which is similar to an HDTV's. This may make the laptop slightly bigger than regular 16in notebooks, but for an "entertainment"-advertised laptop, it was necessary.I'm happy it has an eSATA port because this allowed me to couple my internal hard drives with a hard drive docking station (Thermaltake BlacX). Really helpful for storage and backups. The USB3.0 is a great addition as well. Makes it a bit more future-proof. As for the touchpad, my netbook had the same exact touchpad and I always turned it off because I was not a fan of it. Nothing beats a mouse!Battery life depends on 4 settings through a power-managing software called Power4Gear. At "High Performance" setting, no power saving option is on and the battery life drains within 2 hours. The more balanced "Entertainment" setting, lasts 3 hours. With the power option set to "Quiet Office", the battery life lasts 4 hours. Lastly, the"Battery Saving" mode increases the battery life even longer. What it does is it disables your wallpaper, gadgets, autohides the taskbar, lowers brightness to 20% and sets every setting to maximum power savings. Of course the realtime battery life will be ultimately affected by what task you are doing. In terms of performance, this thing packs a wallop! It will not beat a same-priced desktop, but what's important is portability. It's a great purchase for the performance. Although keep reading to learn about the current GPU driver as a caveat emptor. Another warning: I believe this was first advertised as having bluetooth. I can confirm that it does not. While this is not a deal breaker, I feel it should have been included being an entertainment laptop. Some of the pre-installed softwares are helpful, like the Power4Gear battery managing software and the Splendid Utility which enhances the screen's color/contrast/brightness settings with preset modes. The Cyberlink TrueTheater HD software is amazing. I popped in my "LotR: Fellowship of the Ring" DVD and with the smoothest playback settings (60FPS) and sharpest modes, it seemed like a whole new movie. I do not own a bluray player so I'm not used to this type of quality, but yes, it is better than any YouTube 1080p HD trailers or any HD channels I've seen.Graphic Card Tests (Gaming):All games were tested on the Geforce GT325m (Optimus driver version 189.07), running at 1366x768 native resolution, full screen, and with FRAPS frame counter benchmark. I wanted to keep it at native resolution to show the highest resolution capability of this GPU. Lowering resolution and some graphical settings will unquestionably increase the frame rates, but playing graphically-lush games is always a delight.Batman Arkham Asylum: Fight sequence VS 5 inmates at start of game)Settings: VSync Off, Hardware PhysX Off, Detail level: Very High, 2xAnti-aliasingMin FPS: 25, Avg FPS: 33 Max FPS : 50Verdict: Smooth gameplay, lag-free.--Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare 2 : (Single Player: Heavy gun fight on "Act II: Hornet's Nest" level)Settings: VSync On, All Graphic Settings On, All Textures set to Extra, 4xAnti-aliasingMin FPS 30, Avg FPS 35, Max FPS 60 (Remember VSync caps this at screen's refresh rate, which is 60 in this case)Verdict: Very playable considering it's at max in-game settings. Will experience some tiny lag spikes, which I also experienced on my desktop PC which has better specs than this laptop, so it must be the game.--Mass Effect 2: (Gun fights on mission to recruit Prof. Mordin)Settings: VSync On, All graphic settings on except for Film Grain, 4xAnti-aliasing, 8xAnisotropic FilteringMin FPS 24, Avg FPS 38, Max FPS 49Verdict : Smooth gameplay. Some random lags but does not ruin the experience.--Crysis: (From game start all the way to "First Light" gun fights)Test 1: VSync Off, Everything to Medium, No AAMin FPS 19, Avg FPS 26, Max FPS 34Verdict : Smooth gameplay, lag free even if the FPS results seem low. Graphic texture pop-ins on some of the vegetation, especially when using "maximum speed" boost.Test 2: VSync Off, All graphic settings to medium, except for Texture and Shader at High. 2xAnti-Aliasing . Min FPS 13, Avg FPS 16, Max FPS 20Verdict : Clunky gameplay. With these settings, the texture looked sharper and much easier on the eyes, and while there are no dramatic lag spikes that will get you killed easily (it's a steady 15-16 frames on gun fights), the slow gameplay is quite noticeable.Test 3: VSync Off, Everything to High except Shader to Medium, No AAMin FPS 14, Avg FPS 22, Max FPS 29Verdict : Smooth gameplay, but sometimes has that laggy feel to it. No jittering lag. Pretty impressive for the High setting- I guess Shader is what really stresses the framerates.--World of Warcraft: VSync off, Effects at Medium-High, Window Mode + Maximized option to properly scale the resolutionTest 1: Riding mount around Dalaran's North Bank steps with ~30 toons around me.Min FPS 22, Avg FPS 33, Max FPS 39Verdict: No lagTest 2: Outside Dalaran, flying epic flightMin 50, Avg 85, Max 150Verdict: No lagIn instances, the gameplay is very smooth. Depending on the instance, some will be over 100FPS whereas the newer ones + raids, will be in the low 50s.--6008 pts in 3DMark06--10594 pts in 3DMark05--CONS:Note: This part of the review will only be valid until Nvidia releases the proper Forceware drivers for the laptop's GPU. The GT 325m series is relatively new; NVidia has one official release for it on their website: Optimus Driver 189.07. This driver is not bad. As shown by the benchmarks, 3D gaming works well. But here's where things tend to get annoying: the Nvidia GPU, with its current drivers, rely on the Intel integrated graphics to handle screen scaling. Meaning if you connect this to a larger monitor, in my case an Acer 21.5" 1080P native res widescreen LCD, scaling works well when the GPU running is the Intel IGP, but when you switch to games, you are forced to use the 1080p resolution through the in-game settings, which will be taxing on the framerates. I know the native resolution of the laptop does not match the monitor's, but with the "normal" geforce drivers, scaling to fit the screen works well and allows the laptop's native res to stretch the image onto the monitor. My ASUS 1201n netbook does this easily through it's Nvidia Control Panel, with the same native res as this laptop. I hope NVidia releases this capability with the next driver update.I still do not trust the current Nvidia driver for this GPU just yet. Once it is properly optimized and up to date, the fps will increase. I'll update this entry if the graphic drivers are updated through NVidia or some modding website.NVidia Optimus: This technology sounds great but I'm having a little problem with it. See, when my laptop is plugged in, the Optimus technology works just fine: the intel switches to the nvidia GPU when loading a 3D game. But when I load a 3D game while this laptop is unplugged (regardless whether battery is full or low charge), the GPU does NOT switch. It stays on the Intel GPU and I get low framerates. This problem occurs even if I use "High Performance" mode on the power settings, even if my preferred GPU is NVidia, even if I assign the game profile to load with Nvidia GPU, even if I right click and "run with graphics processor: High performance Nvidia processor". I do notice that if I suddenly plug the laptop to the outlet, the frames will go up fast again (as if the Nvidia GPU was suddenly turned on). There needs to be a better software-based of forcing the GPU on since the NV Control Panel is faulty at this point. Isn't the whole point of Optimus to provide performance when necessary and lengthen battery life, when available? Here is NVidia's claim: "Watch a HD movie, surf the web or play top 3D games knowing that you'll get the long battery life you need and the performance you expect from NVIDIA." This technology should work even on battery, as stated there. I would like to know if this is just my laptop doing this- comment if you can help.Update 1: there is a fix that works. Make sure your HDMI is in digital mode and not analog. This allows your monitor to do the scaling. Although, if you only have analog mode for HDMI, you can try using a DVI to HDMI cable. Or just wait for Nvidia to update the driver and you won't have to go through all this.Update 2: March 15, 2010. Well it seems that Nvidia actually listened. I opened a technical ticket on their website and though I can't take credit for them actually solving this, I can tell you that they have put up a solution. New Optimus drivers are out on their website: version 189.42. The highlights of this release is eerily accurate to the issues I was having with my N61JV. It fixes the incompatibilities with the Intel IGP driver and corrects the Optimus Profile system. The sad news is I have already returned my N61JV almost 2 weeks before the release of this driver so I cannot personally test its reliability. I have since gotten a replacement laptop (Gateway NV5925u) or I would have loved to test this out.Update 3: April 29, 2010. Another GPU driver is released on the Nvidia website: Driver 189.79. Although the main highlight is, "This is an Optimus driver update that fixes an issue with the beta release of StarCraft II."Hope this review helped those who may be thinking of buying this notebook!More pc and electronic reviews at mycoretechs*com. 5Great laptop for the price!
By Preeti
I've had my laptop for over 3 weeks and not experienced any problems. Guess my mine was manufactured on a good day compared to some others. It started fine, no problems burning the recovery dvds, no problems waking up after the lid is closed --just hit the power button. It wakes up exactly where I left off ---internet, word document, etc. An earlier reviewer mentioned the screen brightness then dimming after a few minutes but you can easily adjust the settings to your preference. The i5 processor is fast, the laptop runs quiet even when the fan comes on. The laptop does not heat up much. I use it on my lap while sitting on the couch and even after 2-3 hours, my lap is fine (not warm or uncomfortable). Guess I'm a couch potato! The multi-directional touchpad is pretty cool but really sensitive. It takes some getting used to but that's because I'm a die hard mouse person. However, I do like the touchpad and may be converting. Sound is crisp and clear. Battery life depends on what you're doing. I get about 2.5-3 hours when surfing the web. It's around 2 hours if watching a dvd. There's a lot of bloatware on it which I haven't removed since I need to brush up on how to remove it.Warranty: There is only one warranty card in the box, it's for the Accidental Damage Warranty. The 1-year global warranty is automatic. Amazon was going to let me return it because it was missing info on the global warranty but I called Asus to see if I was supposed to get a separate card in the box. Asus said only the ADW card is in the box because the global warranty is automatic. Asus confirmed by running my serial number. Anyway, you can register your laptop online at Asus and register your ADW online too. But you still have to mail a copy of the invoice and ADW email confirmation to the address they tell you.Comments on Asus: Asus's website is challenging to navigate but eventually you find what you're looking for. Their customer service was very helpful. I did not have any technical issues so I cannot speak about their tech help.I hope this review is helpful. I did a lot of research on this site and others before buying this laptop and I'm very happy with my purchase. $899 for a quality 16-inch i5, 500 GB hard drive, NVIDIA graphics, and a warranty that includes free ADW too. The only improvement would be if the laptop could play blu-rays but no biggie.UPDATE 6/28/10: After having the laptop for 3 months, it just froze at the Asus logon. I tried the hard reset several times per Asus Tech help, but since the computer did nothing, Asus said to send it in for repair. I was not pleased since i had to take it a repair shop for data recovery (which cost me $95) before sending it to Asus. Once I get it back, I'm going to be sure to save all things to an external hard drive on a daily basis. Thank goodness my old Toshiba is still working while I wait for Asus to fix this one.UPDATE 7/20/10: Asus failed to repair my computer on the First try. They replaced the hard drive and sent it back to me. Once I turned it on, I got a black screen with instructions to insert a boot device. Called Tech Help again, tried to use Bios menu but did not work, told to send it back to Asus for the Second time. This time it went to Asus HQ in Fremont, CA. Turns out there was a screw missing when the first place replaced the hard drive. Got the computer back and it actually works. This time system recovery requires 3 dvds instead of 4. Wondering if I'm missing files but Asus says the files are just compressed. In total, I was without a working computer for 6 weeks during the 4 months I've owned it. Will I buy Asus again? Probably Not.

5Ideal Performance/Battery Life Machine
By Anthony
First off, the Nvidia Optimus technology is GENIOUS. Asus is the only brand I know currently utilizing it, but I am sure others will quickly change to it. I changed the default video card to the nvidia 325, and I noticed with only using the nvidia 325 video card, and playing games, battery life is around 2 hours. This is of course with the core i5 doing it's thing and turbo-booosting to 2.53ghz. I know you're probably wondering about game performance. Alright, so after installing the update for the nvidia drivers, I ran tf2 COMPLETELY maxed out on highest resolution, and it ran at about 100fps. And remember that TF2 doesn't utilize multi-core processors as well as some of the even higher end games that have come out after it. I am anxious to see how this machine will handle BF:Bad Company 2. Anyways, the great thing is that I don't have to change anything with the cards. Optimus defaults to the integrated and then switches to nvidia 325 when needed. This, partnered with the smart i5 that adapts based on system needs, allows for a respectable battery life of about 3 hours with only a 6-cell lithium battery! Not too shabby. Next is the mousepad. Oh wow. I love it! It's quite intuitive, and once you get the hang of it, you will be DISAPPOINTED when you go to your friends' laptops without the multi-touch pad. It has almost 10 actions that are possible through the multi-touch pad! I know I caught myself trying to 3-finger swipe to go back a webpage. Needless to say it didn't work on theirs. Ha. Finally, for now, the Asus Software and Windows 7. Asus REALLY set the bar INCREDIBLY high with the production of this laptop. The Asus software that comes with it has some really cool features such as facial recognition. If you want, you can set the laptop to lock out whenever your face is not in front of the webcam for however long you want. Kinda a cool trick to play on your friends when they are facebook. Just give them time to login and them BAM, locked out. Ha. Funny stuff. Windows 7 really just tops the cake with the laptop though. I have loved everything about windows 7, and I learn new things almost daily as to what it can do. oh yea. the ONLY complaint I have with this laptop is that the 500gb hard drive came partitioned. The (C:Drive), or OS drive, comes at 100gb, and the (D:Drive), or Data drive, comes at 330gb. This can be useful for some, but I didn't care for it. However, with Windows 7, I am EASILY able to just stretch the size of the (C:Drive) as long as nothing is on the (D:Drive), without losing ANY data from the (C:Drive). Love it! And lastly, this thing comes with USB3.0! So this laptop is the PERFECT compromise of performance/battery life and all for less than $1k. Stop reading and buy already!
