computer is awesome..but it says its white but the only thing that is white is the keyboard and where the mouse is the rest is all silver ..soo its silver and white even the outside where it sais vaio is silver..they wldnt except the return even tho it says its a white laptop..but i do love the features and the design of it ..

Pretty darn good, watch the ram though...

For $450 (when it's on sale) you can't beat it. The display is bright and very crisp, but has a limited viewing angle. That's okay for most uses, but if you're streaming a movie and wandering around the room it can be a pain.The ram installed is a single 4gb unit. So if you're looking to max the motherboard out to 8gb like I did, don't buy two 4gb chips thinking that it comes with two 2gb ones in it. just buy another 4gb (like this from crucial CT2679447) and you're set.Audio is a bit tinny, but has a eq in it that I haven't messed with.Overall, a huge display, fast computer, and unbeatable price!!

Looking for a 17.3" with i5 Intel processor and this was listed for $448.00 right after Christmas. (Also got a $25.00 online Gift Card)Did my research and decided to buy it. Well no disappointment here. This Acer does a great job with everything you want for a PC under $450. Quick and responsive with all the options you need. Nice that it gives you the option to buy the completed Microsoft Office version or if you just want the basic MS Office, i.e. Word & Excel then you have the option to activate it for the free MS Office version just using Word & Excel.Whats nice is that Acer quickly reminds you to make a Recovery Disk using DVD's and with the i5 processer, it wasn't long before you had a set made.Home Wireless connection was a snap and everything was great.

Good computer for the money

Good choice for home use. Gets a little bogged-down with too many windows open but overall very happy with this computer. Wish the button on the drive on the right side wasn't so sensitive. Pops open every time I pick the computer up from the sides. Does the job nicely.

Great Laptop!!

I just received this laptop 2 days ago. I've been using it as I've been setting it up as my main PC. It has a great build. Feels and looks fantastic. I watched a blue-ray disc and it looked great on the laptop's screen. Bluetooth is nice to have to be able to listen to music from the laptop on my bluetooth headset.I've used it on battery power and it lasted over an hour and a half, and I had the setting at "balanced". The system said I had over 62% battery life remaining and I had been viewing video, pics, and wireless web usage.The only thing that I haven't adjusted to yet is the sound from the fan whenever it's plugged in. I have it set to "Performance" mode whenever it is plugged in, but the sound from the fan kind of is going to get some taking used to. It's not loud, but you can hear it when things are quiet. It's not much, but something I'll have to get used to.The other thing, which is minor, are the stickers Sony put on the wrist wrests. I would have rather not had the stickers all over the the wrist wrests. But hey, that's just me being picky. It has nothing to do with the system or the performance.Reason I gave it 4 stars: was because of the fan. Were it not for the fan noise, it would have been 5 stars. I'm sure in a month or so, I will be used to the fan and will change it to 5 stars.Update (July 7, 2011): Since my original post, I have changed this laptop rating from 4 stars to 5. This laptop has worked perfectly for me. I have since gotten used to the fan and really don't notice it in most environments.I usually only keep laptops for a little over a year, but I see myself keeping this one longer as I see no reason to upgrade.Pros:plenty of options (blu-ray, bluetooth, hdmi, wireless b/g/n, gigabit ethernet, large screen, etc.)fast (performance)comfortablesturdyreliableCons:Screen brightness could be a little brighter.Heavy (not a good laptop for traveling)Since I purchased this laptop, I have had 0 issues! Strong Perfomer

My old laptop was getting blue screens and intermittent Internet connections, so I researched my options. I liked the combination of price, size and performance that this Sony offered. I've been using it for two trouble-free months.I intended to use this computer strictly as a desktop replacement. But the graphics are so good that I'm going to try it for streaming Netflix when I travel. I uninstalled the usual pre-loaded software, turned of the UAC (since I'm the only user), cleaned up the start-up files, and the laptop is operating quickly. I am happy with Windows 7 (with UAC off). The laptop is very quick to find and connect to my home's wireless connection. The 16.4" screen is a nice viewing size. The screen is as tall as my 5-year 15.5" laptop but wider. There's enough memory to let automatic updates, backups and scans occur.I recommend placing the laptop on a riser or fan, because it runs quite warm. I use it at a desk on electric power with the battery out.

multimedia laptop but surprisingly good gaming with Call of Duty 2, and 4

I bought this laptop mainly for bluray player (and burner), a discrete ATI graphic card (for multimedia) and large screen (to do work) at a good price. I thought about getting the ASUS 17 inch A1 laptop for gaming but decided not to since I already have a high performance gaming desktop. plus the ASUS costs twice this laptop. Received this Sony laptop for 1 week, first set up wireless, then downloaded and updated all windows 7 patches (>50) and VAIO patches. Bluray movies (Valkyrie, Life series) are beautiful. Browsing internet, applications are speedy. This laptop's Core Duo 2.2 GHz, 4 Gb DD2 RAM is fast enough for common apps. you don't really need new i7 CPU, DD3 RAM unless for heavy apps such hi def video editing, etc. Then I installed Call of Duty 2, and 4, and racing game GTR 2 to try out. All played smoothly (probably >40-50 fps) at max resolution for this laptop 1600x900, with 4x antialiasing, medium settings. this is surprisingly pleasant being able to play these games as this graphic card ATI is not really for gaming. Gaming laptops with mobile graphic cards ATI 5870, Nvidia 360M are much more expensive > $1500.Pros:1. Good price for the features: Bluray, discrete graphic, large screen with good resolution, 7200 RPM HDD (vs. 5400 RPM in most standard laptops)2. Mainly for multimedia but surprisingly good for gaming, at least those games I tried (new demanding games probably need better hardware)Cons:1. battery life is not long, about 2.5 hours using wireless. but it's expected due to standard battery capacity, large screen, discrete graphic (integrated graphic uses less power)2. Screen is good and bright enough but I don't think it's LED backlit (not listed in the features), which is available in most current laptops

So far so good, very good

I own a powerful gaming desktop PC, and my previous laptop was just a mid-okay 2GB ram/AMD 2.0GHz with less that 250MB of graphic memory on it. So I only used it for school work and that was pretty much it. Now with this HP pavilion dv5, I find myself completely ignoring my gaming desktop. Because this laptop can play most of the PC games that I play (Just finished playing call of duty 4 Modern warfare). It has 500GB space on it and comes with a HMDI port, so that means I connect it to my sumsung HD 1080p screen and everything looks pandora. Also has a very good webcam with a lot of options. It is simple light weight machine with a slick design. It comes with the super quick HP start up, so no need to start up win 7 all the time, especially if you just wanna go online.Cons: The mouse pad is annoying, just grrrrrrrrrrruugghh! The inbuilt speakers are so poor. But works great (dolby advance audio) if you connect them to good PC speakers.I like it ...

So Far Worth The Money-

I took a chance ordering on line because I couldnt find an Asus locally.The fit and finish of this laptop is impressive. The Mocha color seems tobe more attractive than black or silver. It has a ribbed finish and the touchpadstays pretty cool. It comes with a plethora of crapware which I havent yet takenthe time to get rid off, but I sure as hell will. It is probably the reason thatit is a little slow on getting to my screen. Although not as slow as that POS Lenovo that I sold off for twentyfive bucks. Like most of the mfgs today, youhave to go on line for the manual. Another PITA. I would rather they chargedanother 10 or 20 dollars for a full manual. The unit feels quite substantialand well made. Ive only had this for a few days so its pretty early to give anaccurate in depth review. I do have one problem which I emailed Asus about. The rightclick on the touchpad does not allow me to "X" out or click on other tabs, asnothing happens. I have to use an external mouse. Sort of defeats the reasonfor buying a laptop. They claim they will respond in 24 to 48 hours. Didnt happen.I'll give them one more day and then I'll call Amazon for a replacement. I'llsee what happens in the next day or two. So far I'm not too enthralled with theAsus support. Hope I didnt make a serious error in my purchase decision.If it allworks out, I'll update my review in about 4 weeks. Asus finally responded to my emailand they stated that the reason for the delay was due to a server problem. However,by that time I discovered that it was a "USER" error and I resolved it. So far, Im very pleasedwith this laptop. Dont think I could have found a better product. Unfortunately for meAmazons price has dropped by $20.00 and they dont price match on computers. Now its areally good buy if your in need of a decent laptop.

I've only had this computer for a couple of days, but so far I love it. I wasn't sure about the ASUS brand because I hadn't heard of it before, but after doing some research and checking CNET's opinion on ASUS, I decided to go with it and so far I couldn't be more pleased. Like I said I've only had it for a few days but so far I haven't had any issues with it and everything I've tried works just fine. I was surprised about the appearance, from the picture it looked pretty plain, but actually it's a very attractive notebook. I love the ribbed brown cover, it's almost a copper shade, and the outside dimensions make the whole notebook look very sleek, eventhough it has a large 15.6 screen. The inside isn't anything fancy, but the color looks great here too. The battery life isn't great, but it isn't that bad either--I seem to be averaging about 3 hrs on a battery charge. The only issue I had so far was trying to locate the webcam application; I never did find it, but when I loaded Skype it automatically launched. One thing I was really impressed about was the 2 year limited warranty and 1 year accident warranty included-I've owned 3 Dell laptops prior to this one and I've never seen that before. Somehow I missed that the warranty info in the product description, so that was a very pleasant surprise. Overall, I think this is a great notebootk at a great price. Since I haven't had much time to use it yet, I plan to update with a review in about 6 months in order to give a more accurate review.Update, March 14, 2013. After having this computer for about two months, it developed a hardware issue. One day a jagged black line appeared at the bottom of my screen, and over a couple of weeks it grew progressively taller and wider. I contacted ASUS support and they determined it was a covered hardware issue and promptly repaired it and sent it back to me. However, the performance of this laptop deteriorated over time; the processor became extremely slow, it was so frustrating waiting for pages to load. Sometimes it took so long to load pages that I would forget what I was searching for! Then it began to consistently have issues with typing; I would type but the letters would not show up until several seconds later, which made preparing documents and even searching online extremely tedious. I purchased this laptop in January of 2012, but by September I was thoroughly sick of this laptop. To top it off, in January of this year my cat knocked over a cup of coffee on the laptop and fried it. I was furious at the time thinking about all of the documents, irreplaceable photos, music etc. that I lost, but I look back on it now and I think my cat may have done me a favor after all. Fortunately I had purchased a Square Trade warranty and I was able to replace the ASUS laptop with an HP laptop that I love so far. Although I had many issues with the ASUS laptop, I do think that it was probably an isolated issue - I was just unlucky enough to get a lemon. It happens. I know ASUS makes good products, that is why I purchased it in the first place, so I am not holding this one faulty product against them, and I probably would purchase ASUS products again.

Best Specs for the Price

****Really 4-1/2 stars*****I've had this computer for a couple of months now. My model is almost identical to this one, except it came with a 500gb HDD and a Blu-Ray Player instead of a standard DVD player, other than those items it is identical. Model number ends in MU instead of AU. This is the closest to my specs listed on Amazon for my review.First I bought this directly from Lenovo through their online outlet store. I paid just over $700 brand new, including shipping and taxes, quite the deal. Other computers with these specs are around $1200 - $1500 for Samsung, Dell, HP and even more for mac pro.Pros:-Top of the line processor (at time of order).-1 GB graphics card-USB 3.0-Chicklet keypad with numeric input-Large touch pad with scrolling and multi-touch-Awesome Awesome JBL speakers. Did I already say Awesome?!?!-Nice quick controls for volume.-Nice and useful quick keys.Cons:-Small HDD (but plan to upgrade with a SATA+SSD, probably Seagate Momentus XT 750gb). So of all places to go cheap the HDD is the best option to downgrade.-Battery life is 3-4 hours, that's it. Seems to drain in front of my eyes.-Ethernet port pulled apart after one use. I tried to pull out the cable (yes while releasing the catch) and it would not come out. Must have pulled a little too hard cause the metal surrounding the RJ45 connection came loose. I'm just chalking it up to a lousy glue job, something not indicative of the quality in the rest of the computer.-i7 processor still isn't as fast as my 4 year old Core2Duo desktop. It was the fastest 2nd gen i7 mobile processor so what else can one do?Neutral: (Acceptable trade offs for Price).-15.6" screen is nice, but the resolution isn't the greatest. But I knew this going in and if I wanted a high res screen I'd have to pay hundreds more. I don't really miss it.-USB ports are all at the front of the computer. Two each side. It would have been nice if one was near the back or in the back. For instance if on the right side something is in the USB, then it makes me use the mouse further away to the right, otherwise I'll keep hitting the USB device.-Cooling is sufficient. Since this is a desktop replacement I purchased a Cooler Master fan for $20 just for peace of mind.-Bloat ware is typical. Some are even useful enough to keep installed. I uninstalled the worthless ones.-Key board has a nice feel, but are not back lit. I wish they were, but again would have to pay more for that.-The look is nice (I'd rate this a 7 out of 10). Aluminum case, with a rather strange dimple pattern. The orange trim is ok. Personally I think Asus makes great looking laptops, but the feel of Asus is far inferior to this Lenovo.I needed a desktop replacement for work (AutoCAD and Photoshop), so the graphics card was a must. To last the expected 4-5 years, I needed a quad core processor and 8 gb of RAM. For the money these specs can't be beat. Also Lenovo was rated the second most reliable laptop, after Apple, for 2011. I'd love a mac pro, but not for 2.5x's the cost and also would have to purchase new software.Really the only thing this is missing is a faster and larger HDD. For less than $150 I can get the Seagate Momentus XT and turn that weak bottle neck into a strength. Internet via wifi is pretty good and fast. Not like my hard wired desktop, but that's to be expected.Windows 7 is, well a typical MicroSoft POS product;/ I set up the network, but sometimes I can transfer files and sometimes I can't. A reboot and a prayer seems to be the only way to solve this issue. When I can't transfer files, it can be seen, but I will get a pop up window asking for user name and password. Since I never set one up, it's kind of hard to know what those are. Other times it works, so who knows what's going on. Windows 8 doesn't sound like it will be better, just different.Great computer for the price. Even on Amazon its listed as a $1000 computer ($300 more than what I paid).Over all I give this 4 1/2 stars rounding up to 5.

One of the main reasons I bought this was that I'm a gamer and I can't afford an alienware. My friend bought a Dell with exact same config (14 in screen though).My laptop won on all grounds, sustains longer. It's incredibly fast, loads quickly including games. Both of us play Borderlands on LAN. We both start the game together and mine ends up loading faster (with no programs running in the background for both of us). Best part is that, it absolutely makes no noise. There is a button on the laptop that switches on the graphic card and switches off when we don't need it, thus saving power.Only con i've seen is the battery life. It's been one year, although comaparatively doing better than dell, its reduced quite a bit.It has gone down from 6-7 hours to 3 hours max and this doesn't include the battery life when the graphic card is switched on!In this year, the windows crashed only once and that was due to my idiocy for running a software from a shady site.Hope this review helps. All in all a fantastic laptop. I'm an international grad student in the US and a hard core gamer. This deal worked out perfectly for me.

Disappointed

I took months to spec. this computer out for a business application and I'm totally disappointed. Two months into using and loading the computer and I have a fatal hard drive crash. Now after the repair, which took three weeks, this is not the same computer. Not the same software or speed. Sorry to say I will never buy another Lenovo again.

A great laptop, one of the things it doesnt list is the graphics which is powered by intel hd 3000 (still plan on testing out star wars knights of old republic to see the capabilities of integrated graphics) This laptop runs smooth still getting use the high-def screen which tends to make icons smaller. I really like the inclusion of the blu ray drive and back light keyboard so when im off on business trips i can still watch my blu ray movies. i had this model and another with dedicated graphics chip but choose this one because of the lower cost which i got $836 only a couple days ago. Like most computer come with bloatware which is easily removable. The only thing i dont like is glossy front near the keyboard which gets smudges easily. Have not had much time to test out the battery but seems to have normal battery rate as other laptop makers. Lastly one of the things i liked most about this company is Sony themselves having just retired my three year old sony labtop (still running great) for this one. I chose the I5 processor because in comparing the reviews there seems to be not that great of difference between the I7 and I5. I would recommend upgrading the ram as i upgraded it to 8gb, now the only thing i gotta wait for is windows 8 so i can upgrade my os. Hope this review help any questions i be happy to reply or test out. Oh yeah boottime is pretty quick like 15 sec. Giving it and 4 and a half star if it was not for the glossy front but a must buy!

Will not play Blu Ray Movies

Nice lap top but does not play any of my many Blu Ray movies.Plays regular DVD's quite nicely. Would not recommend if you want the Blu Ray feature.Very disappointed.After working with Sony support the problem was resolved. Excellent support.
